Description
Control the destiny of a fledgling civilization through as many as 500,000 years of human history. From meagre beginnings you must exploit the natural resources around you to build an empire capable of dominating the Earth. But your rise to supremacy will not go unchallenged. As was the case throughout history, rival civilizations are certain to oppose you every step of the way.

New technologies, buildings and weapons become available as your civilization progresses through history. But bear in mind that advancement does not necessarily mean success. Your civilization might flourish during one Epoch only to be crushed in the next...

Very dated, very sloppy, but very fun

Empire Earth was never a particularly good strategy game, as far as RTS' went. Age of Empires 2 continues to be more populated, balanced and stable, and arguable more fun, and Rise of Nations would soon come and totally blow Empire Earth out of the water using its own concept. Empire Earth really is an obvious test of concepts, many of which would now be considered poorly planned or explained. For example, the age system is GIGANTICALLY bloated, holding around fifteen different ages, and you must wait multiple ages before you can even get farms, leading to most high skill ceiling games being finished before you can even get crossbows. Units generally follow a rock/paper/scissors balancing, but which units are weak to which is never explained, except for very briefly in the tutorial, for one spearman unit. Balancing also goes out of the window around the time you get guns. For example, some hero units (Otto Von Bismarck especially) are more effective than any slow hero that comes later, due to the fact that their unit speed actually allows them to keep up with your later era armies. The AI is probably the best example of its age. It lacks strategic depth and must cheat to survive, spamming whatever unit is counter to what is most prevalent in your army. It will also cheat out hundreds of units in mere minutes, and will use them without mercy. It is entirely possible for an AI civilization which is nearly completely destroyed and should have no resources to almost immediately build multiple nuclear bombers and devastate your invading forces, then rebuild as though it were nothing. EE is still very fun, especially with friends. It is not as balanced as some other RTS, but multiplayer is very solid, be it fighting against your friends or co-oping against an all-seeing AI. If you are used to the clunk and experimental aspects of games in the early 2000s, you should have no trouble enjoying this game. If you are not, it's best to avoid it. I'd rate it 3.5 if I could.

One of my most played rts games

Played this game hundreds if not thousands of hours since the game was released (on CD not here..). This game makes fun even against KI, because you can't find many ppl to play with (because the most ppl dont like this Pixel Graphic ..) Sadly EE2 & EE3 got worse Gameplay than this one.. just better Graphic. Would be perfect with a HD Remake but don't think this will happen.

Fresh for the time, better choices now

For a couple years in early 00s, Empire Earth stood out in the RTS genre. Age of Empires was the grand daddy of the "advancing through the ages of civilization" RTS sub genre. Empire Earth came along and kicked that up to 11. Start as hunter gatherers, advance to far future. It was a great alternative for people who wanted even more scope to their Age of Empire clones. But then Rise of Nations came out in 2003 and did everything EE did, but much better. To this day, Rise of Nations is the closest an RTS ever came to an in depth game of Civilization. Sure, RoN owed a lot to EE for laying the groundwork, but the EE series never caught up. RoN remained superior for scope, while the Age of Empires games continued to refine themselves as a more refined traditional RTS experience. Empire Earth got left behind in a middle ground that was outdone by other games. Play Age of Empires 2 or Age of Mythology if you want a "historical" themed traditional RTS. Play Rise of Nations if you want a grand scope, meaty RTS civ sim.

Good memories & Great Compatibility

I remember when tried playing it on my former classmate disc recently and just didn't work as of massive incompatibility issues and Windows 10's problem solving skills when it comes to compatibility is utterly useless. The itself game offers a deep empire, army, religion magic and territory defense gameplay. For my nostalgia, this game was not as good as I imagined, but for sure a game what you usually pick back up to play it. Here are the pros and cons of what the game really has: Pros: - Maximum compatibility on GoG and nowhere else. Just buy it HERE and HERE ONLY if you want to play it properly! The game really worth it's cost. - Long duration RTS gameplay leading you through history as you micromanaging your resources and important units defending your empire. - Semi-valuable upgrading branch, but really expensive gameplay-wise and sometimes doesn't even worth it. If you want to really upgrade one thing in your army, then it has to be shooters range. Cons: - Getting necessary resources might be really difficult as your empire develops, because you can only recruit a limited amount of townspeople to work for you and there's literally no way of increasing their maximum capacity. - The tutorial just show you what you would learn by yourself anyway, it doesn't really tell you much about what hotkeys you must use for quality of life purposes what I find really underwhelming. - AI usually ambushes you without you having enough time to prepare and is designed for players, who's micromanaging skills are topnotch. For the test measure of your skills in the game you have to play A LOT to know what you are capable of. - There's no advanced scouting your territory besides the stone age given wolves which are running around and they have literally no other purposes just to scout and die to a random enemy he meets. It could've even had something new to use. Overall: It's kind of a 3.5/5 stars of what I would give to the game, but there's no option like that.
