Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom

Emperor: RotMK is quite simply the finest of the Sierra/Impressions city builders. All of the systems in Emperor are the most refined versions compared to Zeus, Pharoah, and the other previous games in the series. You have the most control over the walkers and there's the fewest annoyances. The 2D graphics look nice and is still very playable even given this game is almost old enough to vote. Like the others in the series, the voice-overs are great for a laugh. If you have any interest in a Sierra city-builder that is one of the finest of the genre, Emperor is quite simply the finest of the craft and really shows the experience and benefits of incremental improvement.

I have to say this is the most refined version of the Caesar III, Pharaoh, Zeus and Emperor saga. When you install the full hd patch, the game looks better than ever. I suggest people start with this title and go reverse through the titles to Pharaoh. Caesar III is the hardest of the series due to no roadblocks and if you wish the ultimate challenge, that is the game.

I have been playing this together with a friend when I was younger. At some point I decided to get the game myself and had so much fun with it. It is a great city builder and still playable today without getting eye cancer.

The classic Sierra City Building series started with Caesar I in 1992 and ended with Emperor in 2002 (apart from some mediocre reboots like Caesar IV in 2006). They came a long way, but in that decade of development they refined gameplay and really perfected the games' balance in Emperor. Graphically, it is one of the nicest isometric games as well. Very addicting gameplay.
