Solid core in terrible dressing
Elex II is an acquired taste. But ultimately, it is an engaging RPG with good quests and that X factor that keeps you wanting to do missions and see how people turn out. Yes it looks like an Xbox 360 game, has bad voice acting, janky combat and goofy characters. The only 2 real problems with the game are that the main story is absolute garbage; by the end, I was just sprinting past enemies in their same-looking bases to finish the objective and teleport out. Also the game heavily assumes you played and remember the events of Elex, which can be annoying. The second real problem is that many of the progression mechanics (how to find skill trainers, how to upgrade weapons, how to craft) are never really explained and can go completely missed for the entire game. I didn't make ammo until the last like 2 hours of my 24 hour playthrough. 2 minor problems are that the companion missions are super repetitive and don't matter; even if all of them hate you at the end of the game they still agree to help you fight, and even if you completely "romance" one you don't get any bonus at all. The other minor problem is that the game eventually forces you to grind to level 30 to progress; I was indecisive about which faction to join so I coincidentally overleveled early on but still found myself at level 27 when I had to be level 30. If you just plowed through one faction you could easily get jammed and be like level 16 at this point. It sucks that by the endgame when you start fighting the main antagonist forces you just plow through samish bases reminiscent of the Oblivion gates, and the story completely unravels with a final boss you've never seen or heard of before. The end is trash and not satisfying at all, but the lead up to it is actually interesting and the faction choices do seem to matter.

Loved this
Now on endgame. The game delivers what it promised. I had lots of fun. If you are a gothic fan like me. Or elex 1 fan. You’ll like this very much. The story and the characters are as compelling as always with piranha games. The combat is fun. Abit more easy at times. But fun as always. It’s always abit different experience than the previous games. The different factions. The aliens artwork. The whole open world experience. The full immersion you get with PB games. That’s the thing. I have to say that elex and gothic are my favourite games. Risen I didn’t like so much(finished all3).

Good improvement on the predecessor
I really like the way they changed the pacing to be a bit more palpable early on, the battle system ins now snappier than in the first title, questing and upgrading stats, the jetpack and weapons is moer intuitive and fun, the world is now looking even better than in the first Elex title, foliage is more detlailed and the far distance viewing is amazing. You can actually fly in this game. Questing and world building is well done as expected from Piranha Bytes. The lip sync in this game is perfect. Many settings can be adjusted. Performance is fine on my system using DX12 and is being improved upon. After playing over 100 hours of the first Elex title and finishing it, I am now having fun playing through Elex II. I can recommend the game.
