Description
ECHO is a Third-Person Science Fiction Adventure.

After a century in stasis the girl En arrives at her destination: A Palace out of legend, a marvel of the old civilization eons gone, still awaiting its first human occupants. Out here, using forgotten technologies, she hopes to bring back a life that shouldn’t have been lost. But nothing could prepare her for what she’ll face in the ancient halls below.

The experience starts as a character driven journey of discovery, but as it unfolds it evolves into something altogether more punishing. The Palace studies everything you do, everything you are, to use it against you. Gameplay revolves around stealth, action and manipulation, as you face off against the ultimate enemy: Yourself.
  • THE WAY YOU PLAY SHAPES THE GAME
In ECHO everything has consequence: As you try to wield its magical technologies it becomes apparent that the Palace has a will of its own… It creates “Echoes” – exact copies of you in every way – that behave like you and only do the things you do. So the way you play the game shapes your enemy. If you sprint, soon the Echoes will get faster. If you sneak, they will get stealthier. If you shoot, they will learn to shoot back. The game constantly reacts to your every choice and input.
  • LEARNING MECHANICS
The Palace "reboots" every so often, resulting in a blackout. This blackout-cycle is the rhythm at which the Echoes get updated with your latest behavior, learning and unlearning from your actions. During the blackout the palace is blind, giving you the freedom to act without consequence. This is the time to run and gun and do all the things you don’t want the Echoes to learn. The experience is one of being up against your own choices from the last blackout-cycle, giving you a way of shaping the game from cycle to cycle. So no matter if you prefer to go stealth or action one thing is certain, you need to keep your wits about you if you want to survive the Palace.
  • RICH STORY AND ATMOSPHERE
At the heart of ECHO is the story. The game starts as a narrative experience, focused on En and her journey into the Palace and her past. Who is she and what is her connection to the Palace? Who is this man that she needs to revive, and what was the circumstances surrounding his death? Slowly these things are uncovered as she descends into the dark halls below.

Very interesting mechanic

The game delivers what it promises superbly, a stealth based game against an AI that copies your behavior The gameplay is really good, it puts in positions of "what should I teach the Echoes to do next cycle?" using your whole moveset as a resource, you must be really mindful of not teaching them too much or else you will be having a harder time The game is hard even if you are mindful of your actions and does has an amount of "Trial and Error" as you get to know the enemy patrolling routes The graphics are really good and detailed, but too repetitive in my opinion, and also some lighting clash with some HUD elements, some areas are so bright you cannot see the "Saving" indicator, or the collectible scanning ping, which bring my next point Collectibles, Tuning Forks and Energy Expansion fragments, if you plan on collecting them, you will be using most of your energy on the Scanner, the layouts and graphics of the game conceal way too good these collectibles and you are forced more often than not to using your scanner to find them, thankfully, each area has more Tuning Forks than you need, so there's that The story is really good and the characters are well developed, also a really good idea to put all the lore dialog in the walking areas, otherwise it would be distracting during combat Overall i rate this 5 stars because despite its cons, the game's mechanic is very well developed in my opinion

interesting

The game starts really strong and you wait for never seen things to come. Eventually it works for a while but the game soon gets very repetitive with its environment. What I find annoying are the (too) many boot cycle sequencies. This could have been done better or left alltogether. It should have been replaced with something more meaningfull. It seems, this part of the game was a bit rushed. Still, a memorable game for years to come because it is seemingly timeless with beautiful art deco to capture your interest. A counterpart to open world as an infinity palace with no ending. Try to get it on sale.

It's like a little piece of eternity

It must have taken some kind of genius or crazy to come up with this creation. Scifi games of this type do not really exist. If ECHO was a movie, it would be closer to Solaris than Star Wars.

Extremely deep sad philosophical story.

This game will put you into a deep thoughtful depression as you contemplate the immeasurable helplessness of all the characters involved and their stories. Great chillingly creepy game, but with a horrible and painful crushing ending that will leave you asking "why?". I can't believe that there were no other endings available that that one awful sad ending. I feel that there should have been a way to change the way things went and struggle to forge a better outcome if you just tried hard enough but it seems that the only reward for all the effort, all the blood and sweat and tears, is punishment. I don't know how to rate this. One star, or Five? I tried to place it in the middle. I don't know whether I can recommend this or not. If you want to have an amazing journey with an ending that just stabs you in the heart with a stone cold merciless face, then this game is for you. You stare into the abyss and it stares back.

Now you're thinking with Echoe's.

I'm a casual gamer, ain't in for the difficulty, but way more for story telling, world building... And man, did I get what I wanted... I read a review that said this was one of the true lovecraftians game out there. Can't agree more, if you want some cosmic horror that will crawl under your skin in a unsuspected way this is it. For the game itself : It takes time, and I guess if you like a game to drop you directly in action, you'll be dissapointed. You got one hour to look at the palace, see it's magnificence and get stunned by its beauty and labyrinth features. Then things start to go south and the game really begin. And you won't be spending time looking at how beautiful it's. Lovecraftian is the best way to describe it. If you read some of his work you'll understand. Think about the explorers in the mountain of madness and that's where you'll be. Carefuly making your way through space and fear trying not to be spotted. The gameplay will crawl on your nerves and there are time where you'll be afraid, and it'll keep you on your toes during the whole run. And even after when you shut it down, it lingers on the back of your mind. It draw me the same lasting impression as Portal and Portal 2 did. It changes your perspective on things and the game? It asks you few things, but asks from you that you master it if you want to survive. As a casual gamer, the game was hard (in easy mode) for me, but the story telling kept me through it all and pushed me to go forward. I can see why some people won't get it, and if you don't like games that take the time, and asks from you to take the time, move away. But if you love the ambiance, the lovecraft hard SF themes and the dread of feeling vulnerable surrounded by way more ennemies than you can take on.... Go for it. And never forget. Don't Run, and don't shoot when the lights are on.
