Only a few thousand humans managed to escape from the Earth before its collapse in 2150 A.D. They spent the next few years on the terra forming of the red planet, developing new technologies and building up new civilisations. Somehow each of the three fractions "Eurasian Dynasty", "United Civilised States" and "Lunar Corporation" did this independently and separately from each other - but in the year 2160 something strange happens in this new world. Will the ED, UCS and LC join forces or continue their old war against each other?
Besides the usual venues in the solar system, there are some strange looking locations: planets with moving and reflecting liquid surfaces. And beside the standard RTS - resources acquisition, base building and destruction of enemy bases, the year 2160 will have some adventure inspired tasks for the players.

Plot is very thin and frankly stupid.
The research tree is good, but there is litte difference between your own designed units and the standard ones.
Combats are quite messy, and you can finish the first campaign by playing with the hero only.
A pretty decent RTS, but not as exceptional as many reviews say.
(if you really want a R&D and unit design RTS, try War Inc)
The campaign design was pretty varied and interesting. The storyboarding is still pretty bad. This game is best summarized with the line "at least it is not as bad as Starcraft." For example, 2160 has some path-finding issues and a dry story, though still better than SC. Even the main character Falkner is SC's Raynor with vastly improved dialogue. Honestly, Falkner's wit was the main reason I played as far as I did. The American voice acting is pretty good, though Ariah has some industrial-strength-dumb unit responses. The gameplay is slightly less tedious as in 2150 unless you play as the super-tedious aliens. You have to carefully command each unit type separately as the auto-escort functionality will turn select-all groupings into slow unit lines that will get crushed, no matter how many units you group up. Most of the gameplay involves putting tough units to protect your artillery while you tediously direct the artillery to demolish the army-mincer grade tower defenses. The tediousness of managing artillery units cannot be properly described. Managing LC's Crion artillery is probably the most attention-demanding process in the game. Oh, and the game drops inputs quite frequently even when it does not lag. To be fair, there are no random crash bugs unlike in 2150. Earth 2160 -- it is somewhat fun even in its tediousness. 2160 is the easiest game to get into the series. 2140 and 2150 are much more serious and dry and get very repetitive base builders fast. If this game is any good, try 2140 and then 2150. There are demos of these games available to try out.
Okay, this is largely more a case of me just being a grouch old mare, but having just failed the first mission because the controls are so wonky, I'm not exactly enamoured with the entire Earth series right now. Maybe I'll give it time and get better with more practice, but as an RTS veteran who prefers simplicty and style, the Earth series, including Earth 2160 just doesn't seem to cut it for me. It's a bland setting combined with a cumbersome control system that seems counter-intuitive to classic RTS play. I'm glad I got this as part of the promo, because if I bought any of the Earth games individually, I'd be sorely disappointed with them all.
This seems a good game and the graphics are definitely good for the genre but it is definitely a little buggy. I have had it completely ignoring my keyboard commands and in one game the lead character kept running off on his own. Very annoying during combat
I had never heard of this series or this game before until it was on GoG, And i was completely missing out all these years, Many RTS games are dime a dozen but not Earth 2160, Interesting story, Customization for units i must say this game is almost perfect in my eyes. LOVE THIS GAME!
