Earth 2140 Trilogy

Rather than give one of my usual long, in-depth reviews, I'm just going to state why I took two stars off this game's score. First, the game loses one star for lack of depth. The missions are all more or less the same: build up your forces, and then blow up everything except whatever buildings your mission brief says you must capture. The story is never given any more explanation than you find in the manual, and overall there just doesn't seem to be much of a motivation to press on from one mission to the next. Second, the game loses another star for pacing issues. Most RTS games include either an active pause feature or some kind of speed-dial to change the rate at which the action happens. Earth 2140 has neither, which means that whenever a fight starts, you're basically at the mercy of the computer's AI because everything moves too quickly for you to really control your soldiers, especially when you're fighting small airborne units. Resemblance to Command and Conquer aside, this is can be a difficult game to play, and the rewards the game gives you for winning do not seem equal to the effort you put into winning.

Earth 2140 will be one of my favourite games forever. BUT as the others commented, AI is crippled and I wonder how is it possible that GOG sell game that is not working at all. Since the multiplayer is crippled as well and you can play only campaigns, it is a true waste of your money... To clean everything on the map when opponent is not producing anything, it is not a fun at all... Otherwise I would give 5 stars

AI is doing nothing same as in the steam version. Wasted money! I have seen not a single unit that was build by AI. Its doing actualy nothing, not even taking their resources.

As I mentioned in the title of my post, I bought here Earth 2140 beacouse of included DOS version. I also own a HD version from Steam. I am pretty sure that AI are diffrent in both version. I played few first missions (ED campaign) in both games and DOS version is much harder. For example, when you need to find BTTI in HD version, you can fight and win with enemy. In DOS version you can only hide and seek. What supprised me the most, there are diffrent mission in HD and DOS version! In HD you quite quickly see briefing room and you need to choose next mission/continent (I chose the one where you need to build two bio-centers). On the other hand, in DOS version there were more missions (I did't see any briefing room with continents so far). And i had to secure wellness of two scientists, and then there was a map with a river in the middle. Cheers, Chris

Ok, I played this game on the day it was released in Poland. I also played the win XP version that came with Earth Universe pack. Love the series. Love 2140 the best. Windows XP fixed version is broken though. The AI is not worse or crippled, no. The AI has been cut out completely. AI doesn't make units and doesn't even use what it has too much or at all. You also have DOS version which is good and - as opposed to winxp ver - it is VERY difficult (but in a good way). Game is great. And no multiplayer? First of all - GOG lies, there IS a multiplayer BUT in the DOS version and it WORKS on new pcs since DosBox enables emulation of old internet protocols/modems/serial whatever. I tested it and played with a friend, through hamachi. Although it was a bit laggy, I am sure it was my friends fault. Most likely. But you will enjoy single player a lot I think :) Expansion packs are also nice, especially those that offer new units, which are REALLY fun to use. And also one of those few games where infantry can actually be usefull (hint: try infantry with rockets spam ;) )
