Dust: An Elysian Tail

The music, the soundeffects, the voice acting, the graphics... everything blends into one big piece of art that takes you on a journey. I played it on normal and it was easy to learn and the button mashing to get through the levels is fun and can be challenging. But the highlight is the character development. Really worth it and I am surely going to play it again.

At face value dust appears to be a kids friendly side scroller with fluffy characters and a bright art style. The truth is that Dust tells a surprisingly compelling story, the characters are interesting, the setting well developed with a large world having been created for the sake of telling a comparatively small story, there are also points where the story gets surprisingly dark and tells a much more mature narrative than one would initially expect. Game play is fun and fast paced, controls on both keyboard and gamepad are tight and responsive, the world is bright and colorful making everything pleasant to see, enemy and level variety are great, and the soundtrack is incredible. This game was a pleasant surprise indeed.

I bought this on another site some time back, but must comment: this game is a gorgeous love letter to classic side-scrollers/platformers in metroidvania form. Tight controls, top-notch art, great sound and music, a little room for metagaming/min-maxing, and smooth mechanics make it a must-have for me. I'm actually considering buying it again. Considering one guy did most/all(?) of the art and programming, it's an incredible labor and well worth the sale price. Give it a shot.

This is a 2D side-scroller with elements of RPG, platforming, hack & slash and a little bit of metroidvania (but not too much). Everything is well implemented. When I play indie games, many times the indie game is above the average AAA game but cannot compare with the AAA great games, but this game it's at the level of a AAA great game. This is one of the best games I ever played, everything in this game is so well: the graphics, music, story-telling, gameplay.

Great gameplay and graphics - amateurish story. Nothing new or interesting beyond a colorful presentation. Much of the dialogue is cringeworthy.
