Most excellent game. Good variables, a lot of upgrades, you get a new ability now and then, even like 5% before the end of the game you get a new ability. The learning curve is the best I've ever experienced in a game, neither too strict nor too mellow, just in the middle. Only complaint would be that I wish there wasn't so much backtracking for the side-quests, there isn't much but I wish there wasn't at all. More or less a close to a perfect game.
i love this game! ik its 9 years old but after minutes of playing this game i really love it i think it is pretty and fidget is my favorite character in it i just love her so much she is so pretty and cute and the gameplay is just phenomenal!
I have this game on Steam. It's a great Metroidvania platformer where you play as Dust as he discovers his purpose in the world. He adventures with Fidget, a magical flying creature that gives dust some magic aid and the legendary sword of Arrah. The story is well done, I came to really love the characters, Dust and Fidget play well off each other and you get a real sense of friendship between the two. At the end I even found the story very touching, in a way many games don't even try to do.
Gameplay is an action platformer, Dust has various attacks and combos and he can mix in magic that Fidget casts with a touch of a button. Most of it is exploring levels and like many metroidvania's Dust gets items and abilities that will allow him to explore more of the levels.
I really can't reccomend this game enough, it isn't flawless, the game can be considered a little easy and it isn't the longest of games but I enjoyed every minute of the 10 hours that I played.
I've enjoyed this game tremendously.
The artistic style is beautiful, the voice acting is superb, the music is brilliant and the controls are fluid.
It has been a long time since I have been that immersed in a game and it has nothing to do with the story.
It's all in the gameplay, including the atmosphere, for this one, because the story is cliché and simplitisc. It was aimed at a younger audiance (8-12 years old would be my guess). Then again, what do you expect when playing anthropomorphic animals?
But boy oh boy! The gameplay! Very simple attacks/dodge/jump that lead to an incredible dance with hordes of ennemies! You get to (almost) fly during long combos. I really felt like an expert swordsman like we see in Japanes animes.
The game was rather short (took me 20 hours to get 112% -- max completion being 117%) and to me it's a plus. I hate games that drag you for 100+ hours because they do it with boring stuff like grinding or travelling. Speaking of which, there is a crafting system but the game had a very clever way of removing both the grinding and travelling usually associated with it and I am highly grateful for it.
There are some challenging mini-games and there is a hardcore difficulty level if you think the game is too easy.
All and all, I'd just turn on this game, relax, unleash awesome combos at my ennemies and have fun.
ps: This game was meant to be played with a controller and it plays natively with the XBox controller. I highly recommend you get one.
Dust: An Elysian Tail is a side scrolling, hack n' slash platformer with RPG elements and uses the metroidvania style format. What will captivate you are the graphics, audio and (maybe)story. They are all done very well. The animation is also fluid with great style and tone. The music is done well and complements the game style. The story may be great for some, but just good for others and will probably be interesting enough for all. There is also a lot of voice acting that may range from great to average. I particularly felt the voice actor for Dust was over-acting and his side-kick, Fidget, was annoying. If you explore enough you will find cameos from other indie game characters and the music and audio creator of the game, HyperDuck Soundwork's duck mascots (Not ducks from Ducktales!). Also it has a charming reference to the NES Castlevania 2 game...Can you spot it?
The game has interesting play mechanics and elements, but are not done perfect. The controls are very responsive and tight, but at times could be hard to control for some players. There is a crafting system that allows the player to craft items by materials dropped from enemies, but it is easy to do and no strategy is necessary, so it feels meaningless to have it. Your character levels up by XP by killing enemies, finishing quests and talking to NPC. The level-up system feels unbalanced. At the beginning of the game it has a nice pace, but around 75% of the game you will level-up too quickly. Most of the enemy AI is very dull. Some enemies will dance around you or stand next to you for a moment before attacking. Some small unpolished things in the game are text going off the menu and unbalanced paragraph spacing. Also sometimes standing in a shrine to save and talking to the item vendor takes too long which is annoying.
Overall, Dust: An Elysian Tail is a title worth playing despite it feeling unpolished. It is fun to look at, listen to, and play.
