DUSK reintroduces you to a world where butchery and bloodshed must be mastered... if you're to survive 'til dawn. Inspired by Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Half-Life, Redneck Rampage and all your '90s favorites, while featuring a soundtrack by metal music mastermind Andrew Hulshult.
In three distinct campaign episodes hand-crafted from straight outta the '90s, players will battle through an onslaught of mystical backwater cultists, possessed militants and even darker forces and attempt to discover just what lurks beneath the Earth. Featuring a vast arsenal of badass weaponry including sickles, swords, crossbows, rifles, dual-wielded and double barreled shotguns and incredibly necessary grenade and rocket launchers, DUSK brings unapologetic retro action from start to finish.
In addition to the main campaign, DUSK features an Endless Survival Mode, putting you front and center against wave after wave of merciless enemies.
And for those looking for an extra challenge, DUSK also offers the chance to go head to head online to battle your friends in DUSKWorld arena multiplayer, where darkness hosts the worst of humanity in surprising new ways...
DUSK features cross-play multiplayer and the exclusive THE GOGATIORUM map for endless mode.
There's a reason for all the positive reviews - It's just... Fun. Stupendously fun.
So what keeps it from a perfect score for me? A few things: The guns feel a little uninspired and the selection is a bit odd sometimes (The melee weapon is useless for instance), the levels could use more enemies (You often end up alone in these big open levels between fights), and (purely subjectively) the art style choice is a bit *too* retro for me.
These are minor nitpicks and they don't really impact the enjoyment too much.
I picked this game up recently, and WOW! I have a hard time wanting to play anything else. It is very fast paced, and the levels are not incredibly long. It feels good to blast through a level within a few minutes and get your adrenaline pumping. I want to play other games...but DUSK comes first!
In all seriousness, the gameplay is very intuitive and builds off of classic 90's shooters (if you're used to DOOM or Quake, or something similar, you'll feel right at home). If you want a good game to get your Halloween spirit on, this is perfect. What I enjoy most is, low spec. I have a potato of a laptop, and I can play this game beautifully. No only is the game built to look older, it doesn't require major hardware (the specs are a bit misleading). Furthermore, the graphics are entirely adjustable if you're worried about your computer being a bit slow. I run it on low spec setting (yes there is a specific setting), and turned down the framerate too. I may adjust the settings up soon to see if it improves and still runs, but for now, I feel great.
I don't even know how I can put down into words how much I love Dusk. I'd almost say even if you're a story centered person you might end up loving this game with almost no story in it.
I'm in Blood and Bone playing GOG version on Linux and the jump height is still bugged. I have found no other way to report the bug. Otherwise, good game.
