Being the Dungeon Keeper and all, this is your home, too. And it’s your business to take these loathsome creatures of darkness and hone them into screaming, frothing, clawing forces of destruction. Lure them in with food and the promise of dank and fetid places to sleep. Keep them in line with the back of your hand and the threat of dire consequences. Pit their scaly hides against the best that the Forces of Good can muster, and they’ll die for you as they rip steaming entrails out of the hapless heroes.
It’s a degenerate and nasty job…and you love it. Yes, home is where your heart is. In a box. Packed in salt. That's right — Dungeon Keeper, Bullfrog's classic dungeon management strategy, gives you no extra credit for having any morals. After all, the underworld isn't black and white!

Dungeon keeper is one of those games where you play it once and gives the thirst for more. There is one goal in this game, defeat pesty human knights and conquer their places.
The resource is just gold, for building the needs for your dungeon and even spells.
Such an easy understanding... a must play for every rts geek.
Do this before playing!
-Increasing resolution and gaining some mercy on your eyes by clicking "ALT + R" ingame, the game will be lagging, to reduce this edit the file "dosboxDK.conf" and change the following "cycles=80000" to "cycles=max".
-Because the game is in dos emulator, using "ALT + F12" will give you fast forward. (google dosbox shortcuts for more info)
Liked parts:
-You are evil, slap your working imps to let them work faster, level up your creatures to conquer the lands for your needs.
-There is a spell that allows you to go in first person view and control your minion, this is just amazing!
-Missions that are interesting, that will just keep you interested for a long period, took me 25 hours!
-Sound, picking up creatures, torturing your enemy or mistress, chicken slapping, all of them just makes a statisfying atmosphere... weird.
-Must explore the caves completely! You will find transfer question mark boxes. This will allow you the transfer one of your selected minion to be moved on the next level.
Disliked parts:
-Mission NEVERGRIM, oh my lord, it is unbeatable. Use transfer creature boxes!
-Last mission, called skybird, once you think it is over, just wait and see. Try to convert the last enemy boss called the avatar!
-Traps, these are just so irritating and overpowered, to disable them your imps have to convert the ground it is standing on, so it will take sacrifices.
Neutral:
-Save game limit is just to low.
-No level editor included.
-Temple cheat codes are never given. (search DK temple recipes)
All in all, a must play for peeps that likes making base, level up your creatures and dominating your enemies. Just smashingly evil.
Dungeon Keeper is a game that represents an era of video-games, and it might be the finest of its type! This game gets a 100% recommendation if you enjoy:
1. Age of Empires (Any of them!)
2. Any of Bullfrog's other games, even Dungeon Keeper 2.
3. If you played War for the Overworld before playing this game, somehow.
Or if you enjoy the idea of RTS gameplay, and want to get in to the genre.
It's often put on sale, so if you don't want to play right away, then wait for one of those. Get it for just over a pound.
Enough about that, let's talk about the game! This is the DOS version of it, other reviews will tell you how to make it high quality.
The game is about building and maintaining a dungeon, and absolutely messing up the happy and joyful land. There are 20 main levels, 6 bonus levels and 15 Deeper Dungeons levels. Discounting the 5 "Tutorial" Levels, that leaves you with 36 fun levels that get gradually harder, especially Deeper Dungeons. Not like the tutorial levels are pushovers. The last 2 will certainly put a first time player on edge.
Controls are simple. 90% of the game is the mouse, with plenty of hotkeys. I recommend rebinding them after you play the tutorials. The remaining 10% is rotating the camera and taking control of your lowly minions. Something that is simply fun to do now, but is impressive considering this game was made in 1997! Make sure to invert the camera though. Default is pulling the mouse down to look up.
The tone of this game is part of why it aged so well. The narration and in game helper voice acting is done amazingly by Richard Ridings (Who also voices Daddy Pig from Peppa Pig). There's the soundtrack, which sounds heavy, like it really should. The humour never distracts from the dark tone. It's really hard to get the balance of horror elements and humour, but Dungeon Keeper has the golden ratio.
I'm running out of space, so I need to wrap this up. I'd recommend the Nerd³ videos about this game, videos say more than I can here.
this game was the first to be rated 10/10 in many magazines in its time of 1990´s. so, this game was the best in it´s time. bullfrog made some amazing games in their time. (untill EA games bought them and fucked it pritty much up.)
this game was so advanced, in a strategy genre, you could even go down in your minions level and fight in their stead. even tho the game was build on a dom engine, it was pritty cool!
I have still the orginal game that I bought, and are still not regretting my buy. it was fun to play, and still are. ^^
