A bit too much on the nose
A short, light RPG for adults (it is not suited for children) with simplistic combat, rudimentary controls, simplistic character statistics and a feel-good story where animals can talk and everything converges on an (almost too) happy tone. What's positive is support for mods. Graphics are functional. It all works, even if there is nothing about the game that really sticks out. Still, for the price and given that this is a game basically made by just two people, this is perfectly good entertainment. The writing, however, is mediocre at best and at times goes into preachy territory. Most of the dialogs--even though intended to be funny--are dull as they tend to state the obvious at great length. The story is cookie-cutter and cheesy to the point where you might start to roll your eyes. One might also argue that for a story with talking (African) animals and friendly skeletons, there is a notable lack of diversity in the game's exclusively caucasian cast. Where the entire story falls apart, however, is that the duo that made the game brought their personal religious convictions to the table and embedded them deep into the mechanics and story to the point where it is all about praise the maker here, and glory to the maker there. This is also the first "game" where somebody apparently felt the need to include functional full-length copies of real-world religious texts in a computer game for no apparent reason other than to make a religious statement. This is furthermore reflected in the cast of characters, all of which follow this very same religion exclusively and without question, from the smith's apprentice to the animals in the wild. Ergo, unless it just so happens that your personal religious orientation aligns and you are just as enthusiastic about the entire topic as the two creators of this game, there is chance this may get a bit too much on the nose.

A Realistic Review
The game itself is adequate. It is worth the price, but there is nothing spectacular about it. Some hail it as better than Diablo III, but this all subjective and based on personal tastes. This game deserves a 3-star rating. It's not the best written story, but it gets the job done. Overall it's a typical game of the genre; nothing is done extremely well. On a personal note, I would love to give the game ONE star. However, I can't justify belittling a decent game just because the makers of it are PREACHY. It constantly makes references to Christianity. I understand people use religion to comfort their insecurities, but they could have spent more time on the game itself. Every opportunity for creativity in the the writing is wasted on the "god-man" cliché. I find the Bible just as entertaining as all the other mythologies, but I don't need the latest Osiris, Dionysus, Buddha, etc. incarnate shoved in my face. It's okay with me if people want to believe in a god, but ditch the intrusive recruiting/brainwashing and the "believe or die" stuff. Faith is a biological need developed by our ability to reason, religion is a psychological want developed by an inability to reason well. I just wanted to play a friggin' video-game for Christ's sake.

So far...
Lovely, simple game so far. I am completely one over by the script, the humour, the ridiculous characters and the sheer charm of it. Give it a try.
