Casablanca, 2219 -- Zoë Castillo is, at first glance, a very normal young woman, but she is about to get involved in a conspiracy that spans parallel worlds and hundreds of years. Something is affecting the world -- static interference is disrupting technology, causing Zoë to see visions of a ghostly presence that is inhabiting a black house in a wintry landscape. As Zoë embarks on a journey where she eventually discovers a magical world behind our own, she will need to make decisions about what's important to her and what she's willing to risk for the people she loves. Zoë will need all her courage to unravel the dangerous web in which she, and the world around her, is entangled.

I loved the longest journey, hated this one.
Two stars for :
- Very good french (and english) voice over
- Pleasure to meet again April Ryan and Crow
Ragnar Tornquist didn't understand that the pleasure to create a game must be based on making the players pleased, that the players are the actor and not a spectator of the game. Here we have : bad gameplay, very loooong dialogues, ridiculous fights, ridiculous end of cutscenes that last a too much long time (lack of cinema expreriences ? i think about editing a movie...).
First half part is quiet ok. After, you don't play, you start from A to go to B and then cutscene, and cutscene, and so one. What a shame.. That ruined everything !
I bought the Dreamfall Chapters (as i done for Dreamfall thinking it would be as good as the very first one episode). Hope he did a better work.. for players !
Dreamfall is a sequel to The Longest Journey and both of these games were highly regarded at launch while still being excellent almost 20 years since. The game can be played without experiencing the first one since it mostly features new characters and many of the key events from the first one are vaguely referenced, but to truly make the most of it, playing the first one is still a must. This is because the game presents the low resolution visuals of the first game in beautiful full 3D and the returning characters are a joy to interact with when you meet them again. The changes to the world and locations are fascinating to experience as well.
This sequel is set a decade after the first game and follows three characters, one being from the first game and two new ones. The main character in this game is clearly Zoë and she has the majority of the screen-time. She ends up getting involved in an epic plot affecting the twin worlds but this time involving the world of dreams and hidden machinations of characters from the first game.
This game is extremely beautiful in everything from the art to the music, including varied locations, character designs and the ability to finally walk around them. The gameplay evolves the adventure game aspects of the first game and adds some mechanics like the ability to listen in on conversations from a distance using focus mode. It adds some clunky combat and stealth mechanics that have been widely derided and does feature occasional back-tracking but the strengths of its gameplay, expansive story and world far outweigh these issues. The music, voice acting and overall flow of the game are also excellent. Some actions can change some interactions in usually minor ways in this game, similar to TLJ.
The outstanding story is much more serious and darker than in TLJ but it maintains the dreamy quality of the first game. It ends on massive cliffhangers but as Dreamfall Chapters is released, you can get the answers without worry.

The first game in the longest journey serious was amazing in so many ways.
Dreamfall is the second game and is a piece of junk.
Its been a while and I can't find the original detailed review I wrote but I still remember the pertinent points:
1. This "game" is over 90% (not a hyperbole) cut-scene or movie (of which there are 3 kinds).
2. This "game" features only a handful of (single digit) items you collect, each one used to solve a "puzzle".
3. The actual "puzzles" are all very short fetch quests.
4. The plot is a heavy handed political commentary.
The only redeemable factor in this game, and the reason it was rated highly... are the graphics. Which are dated in 2012.
The game is really poor compared to The Longest Journey. Very short story (and game), not much to do in it, simplistic, lack the depth of the first, and it leaves you on your appetite big time. Graphics are dated, music is ok, sounds also, and voice acting is just right, but these are superficial things that do not make a game good.
DON'T BUY THIS!!! It's not even worth 2$ on GOG or Steam. It's reallly, really bad!
