Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Graphical quality even with the best setting is really poor. Lots of glitches everywhere. Puzzles are awful and barely worth the title. No background story so no engagement with the characters and what little story there is. Then you add some weird bugs. Terrible all round.
It's janky, obtuse, and more often than not, boring.
It's more fun to watch on youtube than it is to actually play.
Don't understand the comparisons to Fatal Frame. Other than Asian setting, ghosts, and cameras, it's nothing like it. Fatal Frame had great level design and challenging gameplay. DreadOut is extremely difficult to understand where you're supposed to go and what to do. It's worsened by it's janky engine where you can be doing what the games wants you to, but some odd glitch or whatnot will simply prevent any forward progress; leading to restarting, taking a long walk to where you were and trying again and hoping it works this time.
There are folks who love this game and I would LOVE to love this game. But it's too much of a frustrating bore for me to give it approval.
Go watch a let's play or a walkthrough instead. You can't edit out the dullness from your playthrough, but they can.
DreadOut is an insulting sleep-inducing waste of time. As other reviews have pointed out: you're better off watching a playthrough on Youtube instead of allowing yourself to get suckered in hoping to get a satisfying Fatal Frame-like experience out of it.
Dreadful. Spend your catch elsewhere to scratch that horror itch.
Emulate it.
If you're one of those weirdos who won't do that, then this is a close as you're going to get. It really needs the supplemental DLC/Sequel Keepers of the Dark to even approach its intended status of jank Indonesian PC Fatal Frame, since that has all the combat in it.
If you can stand the ragged edges, it's sort of entertaining I guess. I'll stick with emulation.
