Disrespectful and shoddy coding
This re-release of a beloved classic 80's coin-op arcade game is....well....disrespectful. The splash screens leading up to the game resembles a cheap flash animation from the 90's. The time from when one animation ends, to when another one begins has a pretty good delay on it. I have to wait several seconds from when, lets say I die (which happens a lot, this game did eat a lot of quarters,) to when Dirk comes back alive and is ready to go again. Its dead air which does not need to happen. I have to say, I'm pretty dissapointed in this. Because we are now in 2019, and NOT in 1980. Let me repeat that, but rephrased: WE NOW HAVE MODERN HARDWARE. This delay does not need to happen. And this is not hard to code. What might have been ACTUALLY difficult would have been to assemble and then arrange all of Don Bluth's legendary animations into a coherent game. This is a game from 40 years ago. Stuff goes missing. Big, BIG Kudos on whoever did that. And making sure the timing in each scene works. Its something, that while it might be trivial to write the actual source code... It does, however, need a lot of diligent attention to detail. Big Kudos on that too. But then there's the delay between scenes, which makes no sense. And then there's the part where I cant access Dragon's Lair II, or Space Ace. I was sold 3 games, and cant access 2 of them. Are these other games even part of what I downloaded? What's actually going on here?

Fun animations, sloppy gameplay
A quick time event game, where you progress through the story by clicking buttons with directions or the space bar during quick time events. Concept is simple, but thre are gripes. Namely, since this was originally conceived as an arcade game where you put quarters in, it is designed in such a way that unless you have unnaturally good reflexes you are bound to lose without knowing the layout of the game beforehand. The decision-making time for some of the markers is so short its ridiculous. I played the game with highlighting assistance, but even then its was quite difficult for someone new to this. I rewatched the Space Ace episode after completing it and I didnt remeber some of the scenes as I was too busy watching direction indicators. Dragons Lair 2 is much more fair on the timeframes you can use and seems more balanced for an enjoyable experience where you have a chance to beat the game within one go if youre reactions are good. While I enjoyed the animations and it was refreshing to see a feminine character that flirts with you/ is your love interest, instead of the modern strong female bullshit, the gameplay doesnt offer much after youve beaten it, except for trying to improve upon your reactions/score. Considering its 30-40 years old, it seems a bit too pricy for what it offers in todays gaming climate, even at half cost. I glad I tried it out to see how games were back in the day and the animations look stunning even by todays standarts. But remeber, this was designed to make people flock to the machine and drop money into it and you will notice that very strongly in the gameplay. It wasnt desgined to be "fun".

Loving it
I never played it too much as it was expensive to play in my local town arcade. Now I can play a lot. There are some bugs, but I don't think they prevent me from playing, so it should be ok. Quality is very high, considering that it used laser-disks back in the day. I guess they took this from some original media instead...

Childhood memories
I remember I played a lot this game when it arrives at my town in 1983. I was so good back then many people asks is I could play instead of them so they were able to see the ends. Same story for space ace. I don't remember how many coins I put on both of them. Now I can play as much as I want with my son!
