Came back to play this again in 2025, the big sale was much appreciated.

I used to be an exclusively Steam user. Because of that, I had given up on ever playing this game again, since the Steam version is 100% unplayable. On a hunch, I checked it out here on GOG, saw that it had been updated, repeatedly and recently, and decided to give it a chance. Best decision I've made in quite some time. It runs great. No issues so far, and when I complete this playthrough, I'm going to try modding it. Whether you are a fan of this game from when it came out, or just started with the more recent Dragon Age games, this is a must have.

Start immediately with the problem, the recent update gog made two changes, added a laa patch and limited the number of cores. Patch laa really important thing improving performance. Unfortunately this can not be said about the second change, at the moment the game is limited using two cpu cores (by the way in 2009 the game was advertised for four nuclear processors). This change leads to multiple performance issues. At the moment it is possible to solve the problem every time by changing the use of cores in the task manager or by rolling back to the previous update via galaxy (old offline installers are now unavailable). Also note that the gog version is now incompatible with some other modifications (such as dxvk patch).
