Downwell

A basic idea, Done pretty decently.. Quite addictive game-play & you can 'buy' things from a 'thing' that kinda looks like a 'Stay Puft Marshmallow Man' (strangely the reason i bought the game because it looked funny), the idea of unlocking new 'pallets' is a nice touch that freshens-up the game when you get a little bored of that 'standard' one, some of them can make the game a little harder due to the way there done & for me some are way to bright. Reminds me of some of the good old games before people became demanding graphics snobs & obsessed with 'upgrades' (e.g. if it doesn't work add more RAM, instead of fixing the problem), it reminds me of games like on older consoles such as the C64 or even a ZX81. Only down-side i have found (for me) is that i have not found a way to 'save' where i am at in the game and when you die you start over again and for me after awhile the same music over and over gets a little annoying. This game worth buying? Yeah, and here is a plus.. its NOT a flash game, nor is it DOS, it IS actually a Windows game. ===== ...sorry, the person you are trying to contact can't be reached right now... they seem to have, FALLEN down the WELL, leave a message after the sound of the long scream & random retro-ish music.

I paid 69p for this in the sale, feels like I just robbed the dev silly. Great little game and a must have for any rogue-lite/like fans collection.

Downwell is a pixel platformer/shoot'em up with a simple and yet winning gameplay that allows a lot replayability without... come to think about it, without introducing anything new in the runs ( if you don't consider the random levels). Anyhow, speaking of the gameplay, more you go down ( the well) more you can unlock abilities and, eventually, find shops in which buy further upgrades and such. Furthermore, if you are a fan of old portable consoles' pixel games , you can change filters to experience the game in a more fashionable way ( it's actually pretty underwhelming said like that, but it is a nice touch). All in all, I gave it 4 stars for the precise reason that manages to keep you hook with the most simplistic concept such as... falling down a well

A fun action game where you jump and jump some more. Provides a challenge but stays enjoyable while you try to link up combos and progress. Love the art style and music as well. Game does a lot with very little.

This is one of the best examples of a game to play in short bursts. It's very simple, yet challenging. What keeps me coming back to this game is both the unlock system and the random upgrade selection at the end of each level.
