Solid package updated for modern PCs

I need to start off by saying that all the hate leveled at BFG edition over vanilla Doom 3 is overblown. Most criticism comes in the form that DOOM 1/2 are "censored", and that the experience is "consolized" (meaning limited options menu). Time to address these first. The "censorship" in DOOM 1/2 comes in the form of Nazi imagery (only found in some hidden levels) being removed and the red-cross on the medkits changed to a red and white pill. That's it. Both games are fully intact here and feature updated controls for a modern kb+m setup. DOOM 2 even has an additional level that was previously unavailable. As for the "consolized" argument. This is somewhat true. The options menu is far more limited compared to vanilla DOOM 3. However, the essentials are here. Rebindable keys, FOV slider, 60fps/120fps toggle, Vsync, antialiasing, etc. It doesn't really bother me as the game is set up to run well on most modern PCs and I'm not that picky with my graphics options. However, what did bother me is the lack of subtitles and the fact that the FOV only goes up to 100. There are some console commands available to get around these somewhat. My only other complaint is that the ports of DOOM 1/2 do not support rebindable keys. All this aside, these games are feature complete and most importantly feel good to play. This is easily the best looking and smoothest version of DOOM 3 available. BFG edition actually comes with some great features that vanilla DOOM 3 didn't have such as native 16:9 widescreen support and XInput controller support. Be warned that in the GOG version of DOOM 3 BFG, MULTIPLAYER IS DISABLED. So if that is a selling point for you, get the Steam version instead. LAN multiplayer can still be enabled through console commands though.

has its moments but doesn't come alone

well for the pack is worth it. quality wise you can notice a deacy from 1 to 3 but every game has its strengths. when doom 3 came out there was nothing to compare to it so i witnessed the impact that it had on the gaming comunity. for me is still a good game and certainly more scary than most horror games ever made. the other two are the icing on the cake of this pack.

The Worst DOOM Game

(Played on Steam) So I don't actually like the base DOOM 3. DOOM 3 has always been my least favorite DOOM game. It's slow, it's monotonous, and much of the level design has not aged well. I much prefer the faster, more action focused approach to the classic DOOMs, 64, and 2016 and Eternal. I'm glad they moved away from the "survival horror" approach. That said, the game does pick up with the last handful of levels and becomes more enjoyable, and I really liked the Soul Cube. Unfortunately you have to slog through 20 or so levels to get to the more fun stuff. The BFG Edition does fix a lot of problems I have with the original DOOM 3 though. I prefer the flashlight on the shoulder, instead of having to swap between weapon and flashlight. I like that they increased the movement speed to make the game feel faster. The BFG Edition has better graphics and textures. Though you cannot skip cutscenes in the BFG Edition, and that is an annoyance. I'm still not big on DOOM 3 in general, but the BFG Edition is definitely an improvement over the original, and is the definitive way to play DOOM 3. Full Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrCdp9ABiIk&lc=Ugx00AWWd2LJ_TiyIWJ4AaABAg I may not really like the base DOOM 3, but I DO like Resurrection of Evil. The pacing is much better, the level design isn't so tedious and monotonous, they fix a few enemy designs (like the Lost Souls), the gameplay is faster and more action focused, and the short length make it more enjoyable as a "spin-off" of sorts. I also really like the Artifact. Still, it had some fun combat encounters, and featured some of the best Hell levels the series has to offer. Full Review: https://youtu.be/6SzFGoeQCz8

Black Sheep

Doom 3 is unlike any other Doom game. It lacks most of what makes classic Doom and new Doom great. It doesn't have memorable level design, or action that leaves you exhausted and ready for a good nights sleep at 3 am. With that said. I still appreciate this game. I approach it the way I would a Hollywood horror movie such as Aliens, specifically Aliens actually. The game is dripping in blockbuster horror goodness with steam pipes blowing clouds of gas. Darkness always trying to obscure the guy in the rubber suit with acid dripping from his animatronic head. In this sense, the game is a pure classic on the level of an Aliens and if you go in wanting that, you will be very happy. The other Doom games cover the other bases already, so what's the problem with this one being different? It's for that I appreciate it.
