About Doom 3, to who it is addressed?

having experienced Doom 3, I feel like sharing my thought regarding that game (not the version, mind you). First and foremost- this game is different from Doom 1, Doom 2, and our latest release, Doom 2016. The reason for it is the atmosphere that follows an actual story that is fleshed out much more than with previous titles. So who could benefit from this game? People that like to be driven by story, rather than pure gameplay (which is not bad, mind you). Of course, the story itself is nothing close to a masterpiece, but it's enjoyable and respects the original idea. It settled on a much darker tone and tries to emphasize the horror aspects. It all goes to s*&% when you got such a barrage of weapons, but kudos for trying something new. Gameplay-wise, it's a solid experience as well. Maybe not as well-executed as other titles that got released around the same time (half-life 2, far cry), but still enjoyable. Pick it up. It pays plenty of respects to the original game and tries something new at the same time.

Don't be fooled it is a good shooter!

Well, Where shoul I start? I bought the BFG edition because of the NOSTALGIA FACTOR. I wanted to relive some of my childhood memories etc. In quality it is above most of the other shooters out there, the shoty-shoty part is really solid. The engine ... oh the engine it's the grandfather of all today engine. here and there you got into places where lights and shadows can create a really artistic design. Back than ID wanted to make a more story driven horor game, and I think they had succeeded in it. Sadly BFG strips down a little bit from the original concept no flash light, the PDA is chaged to be more excessive and some other tweeks here and there. That is why I give it only 4 stars :(. If it's on sale than, that is the the biggest bang you can buy for your bucks.

The good follow up

When I first played this, shortly after it came out, i was blown away by its graphics, sound, atmosphere, fear factor, just plain everything. The BFG edition did take away from that, but only slightly. Everyone complained that a "space marine" doesn't have a light in his suit or mounted on a weapon? Legitimate question, however, this took some of the fear away from the game, as being in the dark was something you would have to sacrifice carrying a weapon to illuminate, being able to light areas and still have a weapon in your hand makes this less scary. None the less, i loved doom 3, so much so that Doom (2016) dissapointed me for taking all the fear out, and only recently go around to finishing it. My tip for this is to play the game without using your flashlight, to truly be thrust into a scare factor.

DOOM is DOOM

DOOM is the number one best 3D shooting game franchise period and this classic 2004 DOOM3 remaster is in my opinion the best of all DOOMS so far. Even better than the newest one! Really Really!! scary horror atmosphere and really challenging. Love everything about this!!! Who did not play, never lived...

It is worth playing

The story is interesting (well, this is the first Doom to really feature a story, PDAs, audio-logs...), for whatever reason it reminds me a bit of the Shock-series (System Shock, Bioshock). Maybe, because the people on Mars got turned into these zombie and other mutant things. Not with the help of boosters etc. but with the help of the power/demons from the "other dimension". Anyway, it is a long time (10 years), since I last played Doom 3, don't really remember the graphics that much, but I do know, that it was dark and the only light source you had was you pocket-lamp, that you could also use as a melee weapon. Now, you have you lamp on you shoulder and it is much more user-friendly, because you can use the lamp and the weapons the same time. To be honest, I didn't really like the original Doom 3 ("vanilla version" as it is called today). It was dark, didn't have much colors and the whole gameplay feel/was slow... For me, Quake 4 was better in that way. The enemies were faster in the latter game. Quake 4 was more colorfull, had open areas etc. But today, for whatever reason I like this slowness in Doom 3 BFG. I can't really tell why. Maybe, because I'm older? Anyway I won't write much about the BFG version, you can read many things about it elsewhere. Is it worth to play it? Sure. But don't have unrealistic hopes, also the original Doom 3 mods won't work whit this edition.
