I forget what type of game this is called. But this is definitely the best one that I have played.
I first played it 3 players (and beat it) with two of my brothers and that was a lot of fun.
Then played it again with one other player and it was just as good the second time through.
I loved being able to be doing different battles/chat and exploring all separately, and then being able to just join in(the battles or chat or whatever the others were doing), when ever I was ready.
I have to say, after all the hype I was a little let down. Overall it was a solid, if maybe a little shallow turn based RPG. The companion conversations were shallow, with no payoff really. The combat was pretty standard. The graphics were nice though.
There were some serious bugs and crashes here and there, I have to admit. Also, the fact that if you have the camera zoom in during conversations, you basically cut the head off of the person you were talking with. It really broke the immersion, and finally I just had to disable it in the options.
The abilities were good, I have to admit. The powers, and how they interacted with other abilities was well thought out. Just keep in mind, you aoes also hurt your team members.
The story was standard. Become the next hero/ruler and defeat the evil guys/demons. There were a good number of side quests. But the mapping system could have use a little fine tuning. The crafting was a complete waste of time, it seemed like something they threw in last minute.
If your looking for a game like Dragon Age with deep companion storylines and relationships etc, this is not the game for you. If you looking for a generic turn based rpg, with pretty graphics, and the game is on sale I would say go for it. But honestly I have more fun with Mutant Year Zero - Road to Eden, though that games story isn't as in depth and the game isn't as long.
This is a game that rewards deep exploration and multiple playthroughs. You can figure out really cheesy combos that make the game too easy, but you'll have a better time without them.
BG3 is a natural progression from this. But until BG3 is actually finished and they clear the bugs, D:OS2 is the jam.
One of the best RPG s I have EVER played (and I've played many). Brilliant story/dialogue/characters, beautiful graphics, amazing musical score, awesome strategic trun-based battles, everything in this game is just best of the best level! It's just... I mean.... ok, at the end of the game, tears fell down my face (unexpectedly too). Not because the story got to me (though it did), but because I knew that this feeling of elation/happiness/wonder.... I would never be able to feel again, as I did when I beat the game for the first time. This game at 60 bucks was already worth Every. Single. Penny. Masterpiece 10/10.
The game is simply amazing!
Graphics are really vibrant, full of life and detail. Plot and world building is top notch. Characters are all extremely well developed. The part which most RPGs nowadays seem to be dropping the ba** on, so the main and side quests, are all written very well and I can't recall a single fetch quest which seems to be flooding most modern RPGs on the market.
It'd also be criminal not to mention the soundtrack which is simply ASTOUNDING and I'd put it in my top 3 game soundtracks ever, next to Final Fantasy IX & IV.
If you have a ton of free hours at your disposal, or even if you don't, do yourself a favor and buy this game right now!
