This is a game I could still play 20 years from now. Specially with such a great modding community working on new stuff and great mods that make this almost perfect game into something so polished and practically perfect. Perfection doesnt exist though, but when it comes to gaming this is the closest to it.
you have to quicksave before every engagement, and read the wiki to have any idea of what to do or what to expect. The game will just throw you in combat with stuff that will one hit you or cc you to death. This is not a balanced game. The fun I had in the beginning just ended up turning into f.rustration, I have better stuff to do with my time than to waste it on this.
General
Very nice game. First, you do not need to know about the first game in the series to understand or follow the plot in this particular game.
The Gameplay
The gameplay is absoluetly well exectued and has variety. Because of the combo effects (e.g. Character 1 makes it rain, this leads to a wet ground, character two conjours a lightning strike and electrolutes everything in the wet pool) this game has a lot of variety when it comes how to win fights as well as how to skill your characters. One of the strongest points in the game. the game itsself is quite hard (on normal mode), but for experienced players even the gamemode tactican is possible in the first playtrough. not great is the game when it comes to how the fights are spaced out in the story. usually there are huge chunks of the game without fights, only to then fight almost non-stop. (this is maybe the only bad point i can find.)
The Story, questing and voiceacting
the voiceacting is surprisingly very good. the voices feel alive and generally hit the tone of the text pretty well, good work voiceactors. the dialogue is funny and interesting as with anything comming from larian. the story itself is a bit too normalish to say anything good or really bad about it. The quests, as i already said are quite interesting and most are funny, or really really sad. they can be solved quite differently, not in the least thanks to the very huge roster of skills that are possible to learn.
the Sound
the sound is quite good as well, not 'omg this is the best ever', but very solid and fitting for an rpg.
the multiplayer.
the multiplayer is great, i have now played at least 26hours with my brother and it works fine and is fun. sadly they discontinued the dialogethingy from the first game. nether the less, you can have a lot of fun playing this in multiplayer.
In conclusion
certainly worth a buy.
full dislosure:i backed the project on kickstarter with around $30
