Description
Listed among the "Top 100 PC Games Of All Time" by PC GAMER (2012), Divine Divinity is an epic role-playing game with hack-and-slash action, offering a huge world to explore and thousands of items to investigate, trade and use.

The game chronicles the never-ending battle between valiant heroes and the destructive powers of Chaos harnessed by the Black Ring, a cult of enduring evil. You play the role of the prophesised Chosen One who under the guidance of the wizard Zandalor must unite the seven races of Rivellon so that you may become the Divine One and stop the birth of the Lord of Chaos.

So much more than an JUST another Action RPG...

When an experienced gamer first loads Divine Divinity they're generally struck with a strong sense of nostalgia. This feels familiar. Click to attack and set about seeking the sweet loot... But as one plays further into the game, you come to realize that there is a lot more going on here than just a simple action RPG. Divine Divinity (even the game's title is an inside joke) manages to merge the very best of Diablo style gameplay with the depth of Ultima VII. Those mushrooms that you see everywhere soon become an important and non-renewable resource, that wild boar WILL kill you, and you soon learn to avoid packs of rampaging orcs instead of charging headlong into them into them expecting to garner sweet, sweet xps. This is a game that punishes you for NOT reading the quest text the NPCs deliver superbly, and just when you thing you're rich enough to afford all of the healing potions you could ever need, the game smacks you in the face with the very real and subtle reminder that merchants are not just deep, gold filled pockets, but almost real people with real bills to pay. Finding a bed to sleep in becomes a necessity and food actually matters... and both seem to be in short supply. Divine Divinity is the thinking man's ARPG, and it will punish you ever chance it gets, in only the most rewarding way possible. You will cringe as your quest giver dies in an unsolicited troll massacre. You'll buy empty potion flasks at every opportunity solely because they're an increasingly rare commodity. You will enchant otherwise worthless weapons and armor pieces simply because you must to survive. Every old-school gamer owes it to themselves to own this game and put some time into it, if for no other reason than the fact that this game absolutely REFUSES to hold your hand and guide you through it. This game demands your attention. This game demands your critical thinking. This game, quite frankly, demands your respect. Should you buy it and play it, you will be granted a very rare and poignant role-playing experience that is unforgiving and unremitting in it's delivery of action, skill building, and item usage. Buy this game and rest assured that you will not regret it. The only REAL problem that I can manage to find with this game is in it's shoddily created and executed sequels. Consider this a friendly and personal challenge to finish this game, and enjoy!

old school goodness.

A great old school Isometric RPG. The first game in the Divinity series is a really fun RPG. The gameplay is fast paced and the story is very engrossing. The only issue I have this game is that playing it on resolutions higher than 1080p is near impossible unless you have a magnifier glass. If you love RPGs then you need to play this.

Better than Diablo

This is an open world game with a combat similar to Diablo, but with some differences (being able to pause and lock on target). It is open world, quest driven with interactivity on objects and npcs. Not compare it to Baldur's Gate because environments and quest designs are clearly better in this game, it actually takes elements of Ultima 7, you have to think and search for clues to resolve quests, exploration is satisfying etc. There are some problems that were never resolved, quests that will break not because you actualy choose to fail them but some events are not triggered in the expected order and remain unresolved. Some skills are broken or not work well, etc. But beside these problems the game is one of the best rpgs.

real gem

old classic, still holds up. Had to reboot my PC few times because game started to hog 100% CPU (no idea how it can do it, haven't seen such hog in years). Had to use hex editor to correct disposition for quest NPCs (imp in particular). I know the issue with imp is old and supposed to be fixed but not in my case. Once had to reload older save because main quest NPC stuck in his coffin and failed to finish his move properly. Save scummed my way thru the game because I had no other choice. I needed to survive and I played dagger class. Ended up as summoner and magic damage dealer because daggers suck and it's impossible to find even decent one without save scumming. Playing a mage would be same pain. Best staff I saw does miserable damage and there are no means to enchant your damage output except for class skills or good drops. If you want to breeze thru the game go for warrior with axe, game gives many good axes or swords, not so many daggers, bows, staves or anything else. Music is godly in this game and it's included in mp3 format in download section. Despite the flaws this game kept me engaged and it was fun. I liked how you can find old ruined house and furnish it, moving items, combining them to create new one isn't a part of RPG genre but it feels natural and well thought. You might ask why I'm giving 5 stars while there are technical issues and balance flaws. Because Larian haven't abandoned the game and they tried to support it, issued patches and have helped people with bugged saves. One star out of 5 goes for ongoing support and efforts to preserve this gem.
