Description
Distant Worlds Returns! Distant Worlds, the critically acclaimed 4X space strategy game is back with a brand new 64-bit engine, 3D graphics and a polished interface to begin an epic new Distant Worlds series with Distant Worlds 2.

Distant Worlds 2 is a vast, pausable real-time 4X space strategy game. Experience the full depth and detail of turn-based strategy, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game. The Universe is Yours!

Huge Galaxies with up to 2,000 star systems and tens of thousands of planets, moons and asteroids are yours to explore and exploit, whether peacefully through mining and diplomacy or by conquest! The complex process of generating a galaxy ensures that every new game will be different and the many galaxy setup options ensure incredible replayability as well as the ability to have your game be just the way you like it.

Galaxies are so deep, fun and immersive that you won’t want to finish the game. Choose from seven playable base game factions which cover a wide variety of playstyles. Build, expand and improve your empire while playing through the storylines, with victory conditions or in an open-ended sandbox mode. Each galaxy is packed with life and activity. Encounter other empires, independent alien colonies, traders, pirates and space monsters. Explore star systems, asteroid fields, galactic storms and black holes. Discover evidence of civilizations long since past, uncovering secrets about the galaxy's troubled history...

Intelligent automation allows you to tailor the game to your preferred playstyle and scale. Decide how much you want to control and which gameplay areas suit you best. You can limit your focus to just one ship or expand it all the way up to everything in a vast galactic empire. Let your advisors and the intelligent automation handle the rest!

A Built-in Game Editor allows you to fine-tune your own galaxy, adding or removing star systems, planets, asteroids, ships, star bases, space monsters or anything else. Modify the attributes of any empire in your game for the ultimate custom experience.

Extensive In-Game Help is included. Exhaustive, built-in, context-sensitive help is always only a single key-press away. Press F1 at any time for a detailed explanation of the current game screen, your currently selected item, and so on, or just browse the complete “Galactopedia”
Tutorials are included to quickly familiarize you with all of the game elements and tools.

Best of all, these all combine to let you play the game your way: enjoy a quick, intense game in a crowded sector of space or take your time in an epic game spread across a vast galaxy!

Great space empire 4X game

It is very immersive. You really feel like you are building a space empire. I love the dynamic between private enterprise and state controlled enterprise. The key is to set manual control on functions you want to control. The AI seems to do a great job and can also suggest actions to you.

Awesome!

It plays like the first one, but with much better Graphics. You can zoom very close, the planets look very realistic, the ships are well dessigned. There is not much to ctitisize right now. What I miss is the queuable stops for ships like explorer ships. There are many Asteroids in the starting System and this way you automate the exploring or stay always waiting for an explorer ship to end its current mission. that is tedious. Hopefully they implement it later on. And there are other finetuning things that should and surely will be adressed. Right now, it is the best game I have played in a very long time. I mean, many other Space Games that I really like are also good in one way or another. But this game, does in my eyes everything really really good. So.. the research feels pretty realsitic, the exploring is awesome, the size of the galaxy is awesome, the proportions (ok, the moons are way too close to the planets). The music is not that good, I prefer my own. The pseudo 3D is kind of a 2D plus rotation, kind of, but I do not care. It is really better than I thought. And the rest plays and feels like DW1. AND! The text is readable - everything is readable. But here also one minus: the font is still in the way that I do not like: in all those spreadsheets, the numbers do not fit in a nice way under another. so 1.111 and 0.000 do not line up. But I am sure, this game will be one of my favorites for years to come. What games I like beside this: Polaris Sector Sword of the Stars 2 Endless Sky Reassembly Space Empires V Starsector Astroxc Imperium Distant Worlds Universe Conquest Frontier Wars Sins of a Solar Empire with the Armada III Mod Endless Space 2 Interstellar Space Genesis free orion master of orion 2 master of orion 3 X2 up to X4 unending galaxy rebel galaxy starcom nexus stars in shadow avorion the jupiter incident and Star Ruler 2 just to name a few. But as said, Distant Worlds 2 feels like the best of all games mentioned so far. Only time will tell if it lacks some stuff I need to keep the immersion perfect.

Too tedious

Love the concept and I'd love to enjoy this game, but it's too tedious to deal with ship designs. If you set it to automatic then it will design ships which you have no resources for. Why does a mining station need weapons which require rare resources? If you do it manually then there is way too many things to deal with, like how many of each things you need? Does a spaceport need docking bays? Who knows, it's not explained in the game. There is no way to view differences between design upgrades. You press the upgrade button, what was upgraded? Who knows? So if you don't deal with ship design then you are wasting resources on ship components you don't need. If you are dealing with ship design then it's extremely tedious and boring. I want to focus on where my ships are going and what are they exploring, not if they should have 2 or 3 fuel storages.

Distant Worlds Universe is a masterpiece

Distant Worlds 2 pales vastly in comparison, but whilst is still in development, ive got some hope that maybe in another year it can get to somewhere better then now. I've managed another hour and its like getting thrown out of a moving car at high speed. Its hurts so bad I feel mangled up and in searing pain! Brought the latest DLC was hoping for at least some kind of surprise its not a nice surprise, its surprise no real improvement. Please wait another year. No how about open the entire game to modding and hope this year modders will save it for the next year for the people who brought the game from day with the expectation of Distant Worlds Universe (a masterpiece I worship) Distant Worlds 2, im one hell of a searing demon over, it hurts so badly, actual cringe to open and play this game. I force myself too because I hope. No current system is better then Distant Worlds Universe objectively. And all the previous issues from Distant Worlds Universe like sound zoomed into a star over riding WINDOWS VOLUME MIXER! WOW! I dont want to list the 100 things I dislike about Distant Worlds 2. But there are 100 things I dislike about Distant Worlds 2. Basically everything. I'll end with the only nice thing is that the game is still getting updated, but with the DLC its like the devs are begging for something. Well I'll beg for something LET MODDERS FIX THIS MESS!!!
