Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

It looks nice, I like this "talking-to-yourself" kind of narration, and I'm not totally against that this game is more like a novel than anything else (with a dice check in almost every situation and dialogue). My problem is that I'm 3 hours into the game and I've didn't really progressed, at all. I'm still a junkie with no police badge or gun or shoes, and as I miss some specific skills, I'm not even able to check the dead body. At the moment, I should wait almost 2 hours to get some knowledge into my head, and it's like 2 real time hours, as I don't have the option to pass time at this point. I don't really get the hype for this game, I'd better get some of my old "Choose your own fantasy" type of books, because the two are essentially the same.

Disco Elysium is a unique RPG in that it relies entirely on skill-checks, exploration, and dialogue, without any combat. The few situations that would consist of combat in a regular RPG, have been replaced by skill checks. To balance this, Disco Elysium does skill checks better than any other game I've played. Your skills not only help you pass challenges, they also give you advice, argue with each other, and influence your dialogue. If you fail skill checks, this may result in you saying and doing hilarious and horrifying things that you would never do normally. The game feels like looking into an alternate universe where modern RPGs were influenced primarily by adventure games instead of action games. It's a pleasure to experience. It is also very well-written. The dialogue is clever, fascinating, and often hilarious. Unfortunately, the game kind of dies in the last act, with a weak railroaded conclusion. But the journey up to that poin more than makes up for it.

Awesome script, true characters, immersive self-conciousness.. A must-play!

An incredibly written, visualised and voice-acted story that gave me hope for our future during my darkest mental state. Such a shame that ZA/UM's co-op investors have now ejected Helen Hindpere (Lead Writer), Aleksander Rostov (Art Director), and Robert Kurvitz (Lead Writer) in favour of further monetising the studio's future works. Love and support to the exiles and the ongoing ZA/UM team. I will definitely follow these creators and support their future work, in whatever form that may take. Humanity, Be Vigilant; We Loved You.

This narrative grabbed a hold of me and never let go. The writing is perfect. Only downside is that the community is awful to deal with.
