I love RPGs, and I loved this.

Like other reviews say, this is an RPG very reminiscent of Planescape, Baldur's Gate, or Torment: Tides of Numenara, except for (a) the complete lack of combat, and (b) the very wonderful cyberpunk faux-1950s-ish-but-with-lots-of-drugs setting. I found the plot captivating and genuinely enjoyed exploring the characters you interact with. I won't spoil the plot but suffice to say that my tenacity and completion-itis were rewarded – but I'm sure that if I went for a different type of character the world would have changed hugely too. Frankly, I didn't expect to like this. I dislike most visual novels. Gog was quite keen that I would like it. I did. Give it a go!

RPG Masterpiece

One of the best RPGs I've ever played. Engaging and provocative story, intriguing atmosphere. It gives the feeling of reading a book with multiple choices, playing a tabletop RPG with a great master or playing an old RPG made for some strange console that you've never heard of, a mix of all this that leaves a question hanging over your head : "what happened, what is happening, I really need to know who I am, what I did and whether I really did it or not". What's more absurd, all of this happens without the need for absurd graphics or unbridled action, it's just lines of dialogue, hundreds of excellent dialogues that lead to decisions and conclusions, guiding you through a dying and intriguing world in search of the solution to a miserable mystery .

Best RPG I've ever played.

And I've been playing RPGs for 25 years now, including all of the classics. I thought that it'd be hard to dethrone my favourites, but Disco Elysium is sooo good that it blew my mind. I've had chills multiple times while playing the game and I stole time off work to play it as I couldn't put it down till I finished it. It's one of the best detective stories I've ever played, with really unique elements in character building, very deep characters to interact with, lots of political and psychological elements and a really finely crated world. If you like clever games that make you think, with deep plot, fantastic dialogues and a generous dash of surreal humour, this is the game for you. If you simply love rpgs OR detective stories OR games with psychological elements, OR games with political elements or any of the above, this game is definitely worth buying, even at full price. Honestly, I'd buy it again just to buy the devs a beer for their masterpiece. This will be a classic for MANY years to come and 20 years from now we're gonna see VR remakes of it or whatever the current trend is by that point, and we'll be getting them because that game was soo good. 5 stars is not enough of a rating for this one.

It's a point and click adventure game

I've heard and read a lot about this being an RPG, it's not an RPG in the sense of a normal computer RPG but in the sense of a tabletop RPG where you "roleplay" a character. This is how it stands out from a traditional point and click adventure game where the character is usually predefined. One caveat, your character must be a mentally unstable alcoholic cop, which is interesting especially with the internal monologue. All point and click adventures have dynamic dialogue and free choice to a degree, I don't agree this is unique or clever at all. This may definitely be a 4 or 5 star point and click adventure game if you enjoy that genre. However, being defined as a RPG, turn based fantasy is misleading and in the case of being turn based, has nothing to do with that genre.
