Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

Coming from someone who hates walking simulators & visual novels, this is one of the better talky games to play. It certainly has the feeling of the noir detective genre. (i am quite partial to this), but I would say the comedic tone takes the main seat. There is a lot of comedy in the game, but it certainly has its serious moments. If you're someone who enjoys a good read, there is top notch comedic writing (maybe some typos, but whatever). Choosing the weird options are encouraged. It is first and foremost a talky game. Some choices lock you out from others. Add the RPG stuff into the mix and the narrative shifts accordingly. In terms of customisation, there is the dialogue part and "archetypes" you can take on, in order to unlock dialogue options, (you can be a communist, non political, capitalist, and other non-political ones, etc). You can influence your stats a bit with the thought cabinet, clothes, and drugs. The thought cabinet is interesting, because during my playthrough, I've only managed to unlock about half of it. There is quite a bit of replay value in this game. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Would play again.

This game really has the whole lot. Beautifully designed in a visual style I haven't seen in an isometric RPG before. The writing is complex, amusing, very dark, and absolutely brilliant. This is a uniquely designed game in a uniquely imagined world. There's great pleasure in just exploring every nook and cranny of this small corner of the world, with every dark room and stretch of land layered and thought through. Pretty much every NPC has depth and complexity, and it's always hard to figure out exactly how they're going to react to your specific brand of bizarreness. This is an RPG with minimal battle, putting the entire emphasis on character design and development. For those who love playing character-focused RPGs and always grudgingly level-up combat skills because otherwise you die every 10 minutes, this is the game for you. This isn't just a game that lets you get away with talking your way through problems—it's built for it. I can't praise this game enough. I'm probably only about 20% of the way through and it's already the best game I've played this year.

This game... I have been a gamer my whole life... my girlfriend sometimes ask me why? Why do I love gaming so much? Well... it is because every now and again you get an experience like Disco Elysium. It is basically an experience you can't ever get from a movie or even a book. A super deep story where YOU actually get to make many of the choises. Not going to spoil anything but basically this game made me laugh AND cry and after finishing it I can't stop thinking about all the great moments in my 25h playthorugh. What could I have done differently? Was my decision right? Well I will just have to make a new playthorugh. An absolutely brilliant experience that will blow your mind. Buy it and support one of the greates gaming experiences in many years. + Story! Characters! Writing! MUSIC! Choises! - (Sometimes) the voice acting quality is not that great (but just sometimes and it does not take away from the experience since the lines are mostly just written anyway)

Play it fully. Soak it in. Let it ferment. Is this even a game, or real life? I don't know. Just don't skip anything, and retry if you get things wrong (save very often), to make sure you get all of it. Then what?

The kind of game that makes it difficult to play anything else when you're done with it. It's painfully obvious that ZA/UM understands the sub-genre and what makes it enjoyable better than any other studio working today. For me to list any pet peeve I may have would detract from the fact that, as of 2019, there is no substitute to Disco Elysium as far as padding-free adventure-RPG hybrids go.
