Lifetime to master...
I have played this game off and on for the better part of a decade. I can pick it up and get back in the swing pretty quickly and enjoy no matter what nation or expansion I play. The game get hard and is challenging just like it should. I strongly recommend this game for anyone who wants a real experience from a game and not just an easy roll through.

Didn't age a day
I first played this one over fifteen years ago, and decided to fire it up again to finish the rest of the campaigns. This is one of those rare timeless games that remain as addictive today as they did when first released. Easy to learn, tough to master, as stated by a reviewer above, it sucks you into its dark fantasy world and just refuses to let go. The art direction is right there at the top of the RTS genre, with graphics that don't feel dated in the least, the soundtrack has a mixture of moody ambient tracks mixed with pulse pounding battle music, and the sound design is excellent, doing a lasting job of giving each individual unit its own personality. By 'lasting', I mean that some voice effects stuck to me to this day, believe it or not. Each individual campaign has an interesting story, and some can be quite difficult, but never unfairly so and always satisfying in the end. Shame that the expansions (included in this GOG version) are so grind-y, serve just as an excuse for you to actually use your higher-level units and have absolutely zero strategy behind them. But that in no way detracts from the overall score. Disciples 2 is a gem of a game, gorgeous to look at and constantly giving you an excuse to press that "End Turn" button *just* one more time.

One of the classics
In my private ranking Disciples 2 is just behind Heroes of Might and Magic 3. In some aspects Disciples 2 is even better - it has more interesting and sophisticated campaign. I would say that both games are quite similar. Yes, there are certain differences, but... The atmosphere, graphics, music, setting, gameplay, one more round syndrome - everything these things bind you on a long time to the PC. Disciples 2 is like mirror reflection of Heroes 3. I mean that Heroes 3 is heroic fantasy TBS, and Disciples 2 is dark fantasy TBS. That's the main difference. Heroes 3 is like D&D while Disciples 2 is like Warhammer. It depends only from you, from your mood which universe you prefer. I think that both titles perfectly complement. Like I said - they are mirror reflections. It's huge disaster that such talented game developers - New World Computing and Strategy First - had to collapse. All because of money. If you want Disciples 2 smooth running on Win 10 try this patch from Verok. He does really good job: https://verokster.blogspot.com/2019/03/disciples-i-ii-gl-wrapper-patch.html
