It all began in a world where dragons roamed the land and knights fought with valor and honor.
And then there was Dink. Can a simple pig farmer thrust into an epic journey of magic and adventure save the world?
Dink Smallwood HD is the newly remixed version of the irreverent old-school RPG advent...
This game is pretty good, even if it is a bit dated. Also, while there isn't a Linux version, I do appreciate that there is a browser version to allow Linux users to be able to play this game.
This is a unique game with a sharp, often quite dark sense of humour. Crisp isometric graphics with big sprites, good music, good gameplay, there's frankly little NOT to love. The main story could be longer, but this is remedied by the fact the game bizarrely came with robust modding tools, and literal hundreds of fan-made adventures exist online.
This game.... For one brings back so much nostalgia.... for two,... the humor is brilliant. Its a top tier classic retro RPG with a Hero whose a bit of a clutz and some very dark humour .... its just perfect...
It's a dated game, but it's still worth trying just for fun. The gameplay's not great and the writing is mixed, but the atmosphere and exploration is good enough to keep you going.
The real sale that the store page won't tell you is the NUMEROUS Dink Smallwood mods over the decades. No, really, go check out all the DMODs and all the wealth of content they provide. Some of them even give better gameplay than the vanilla. It's really worth checking out.
Quite literally, "HD" aka "High Definition" simply means the displayed window resolution is 16:9 ratio. when in reality nothing about the game is different, the play area is still 4:3 and none of the IN GAME textures are HD or any different than the original from 20 years ago.
Having laboriously grinded my way to the finish of this, i would say its a ONCE in a lifetime experience to fathom the depths of this barely RPG barely Story and Barely Gameplay. yet, its still a linux native binary from the website officially, and its still a classic mocking trope among games.
Try it atleast once and punch a duck while you sleep.
