Demo version of Dex is available here

Includes the Extra Outfits DLC.

Explore, fight, talk and hack your way through a rich cyberpunk world in this 2D action-RPG!

Wanted dead by a mysterious and far-reaching organization, you will traverse the futuristic city of Harbor Prime and make unexpected allies on your quest to bring down the system! In this cyberpunk adventure inspired by Blade Runner and Neuromancer, you are free to choose your playstyle: will you be a silent assassin, a hacker, a diplomat or a straightforward gunfighter?

Designed as a throwback to earlier 2D platforming and action games combined with modern RPG elements, Dex offers real-time combat, a mature storyline and interactive dialogues.

Customize your character’s skills, equipment and even augmentations – implants which grant you superhuman abilities and open up new paths within the game’s open world.

A revolutionary hacking mechanic also lets you dive into Cyberspace: overcome viruses and intrusion countermeasures to deactivate turrets, overload devices, steal corporate data and cripple your enemies!
  • Rare blend of realism and creative vision: Realistic action, mature storyline, and complex character interactions combined with hand-drawn characters, animations, and environments, arcade-style melee combat, and an original conception of cyberspace.
  • Multiple paths: Operate in physical reality or in Cyberspace. Overcome obstacles using your skills, weapons, augmentations…
  • Meaningful character building: Will you be a silent assassin, a hacker, or a straightforward gunfighter? Improve your character and gear to unlock gameplay-changing upgrades that reinforce and customize your gameplay style.
  • Unique hacking mechanic: Transfer your consciousness to your avatar, overcome intrusion countermeasures, take action, and then return back to your body in a fraction of a real-time second to see the results – deactivated turrets, overloaded devices, enemies with crippled implants…
  • Neo-cyberpunk: Story deeply inspired by the cyberpunk novels of William Gibson and other classical cyberpunk authors, flavored with a contemporary concept of augmented reality.
  • Rich game world and diverse level design: Visit diverse locations in Harbor Prime, a futuristic city complete with luxurious skyscrapers, run-down shantytowns, and seedy red-light districts. Take part in street brawls, steal corporate data, overcome environmental hazards, and, of course, stay alive – no easy task.
  • Three special outfits: The Samio Cyberwear allows you to regenerate your Focus when hacking, the Euroforce BattleRig offers physical protection against bullets, and the Armagear InvisiSuit can make you invisible! You’ll have to be on the lookout for clues about their location, and face serious opposition before earning them!

Terrible controls.

I got the game on steam, and wondered what the reviews would be up here. Honestly, I played the game for about 30 minuets to 50 minutes, and was completely done with it. The overall gameplay of the game was so lacking, so stiff, so unpolished, that it felt like a students' assignment that ended up being fully funded. It's just not good. Go over to youtube to watch a video with no commentary of the first few levels, and see if it means anything to ya before getting this one.

Game looks good but...

Game isn't exactly bad but it isn't exactly great either, specially when you want to explore it a bit and you can't. The game gives you almost no space for fails. Just to give you an idea: I can't explore the right side of where I'm at the moment because I lack skills. My left is full of gas that I can't walk in, there isn't enough HP for that. The other place to go goes nowhere, there is a wall at the end. And the alternative has electricity that kills me like the gas. Solution? Start a new game and git gud -_- Yeah, game is extremely specific in terms of audience and leaves no space for others. And to be honest, it's a shame. Audio and Graphics aren't actually bad (some animations could be better but listening to audio from every enemy and NPCs is already surprisingly good), it's just the gameplay that sucks and drops you in the game already thinking that you should know how everything works. If it wasn't so strict with the difficulty and the prevention of what I can actually explore, I would probably love it more.

Good RPG ideas but too hardcore for me

I find the combat too difficult, I have got to go on easy mode to obtain the C4, the second mission... (in classic, protecting the C4, you face a clon of the first boss and the other enemy (thougher than normal) has a charge attack, in easy, the clon is not present) Then again for dificulty, even in easy, trying to dodge acid... still dying for failing a jump or getting corroded by acid drops. Roleplaying-exploration: The character customization has abilities for level up: Some are combat oriented (health, battle, weapons) Others are oriented to the exploration or to the conversation (lockpick, hacking, AI, and charisma for conversation options). The lockpicking ability seems useful at the begining as there are two doors locked. And the conversation ability , i thought to level this one... The are inventory pages (with goods to sell o to regain HP), there is a mission tracking page, an implants page which reminds me of deus ex On the exploration part, when I tried every ladder to explore, I find areas where hot deadly vapor steam blocks your way, two doors locked, several enemies with fire weapons, or an alternative way to exit the bandit headquarters, and the jump made me lose 126 HP.... At the beginning just go on the most straight way At least there are automatic recovery points. In conclusion, even if it says RPG-exploration, ok, elements seems to be there, but you have to rely heavily on your DEXterity skills and reloads to advance through the game.

this is a good game, and that makes it bad

You heared me right. The story is fine (the part I got of it), the controls are smooths, the upgrade system makes you feel advancing just by looking at it, and I'm quite fond of the whole thing in general. And that's where my problem originates from. So, finishing the tutorial section you jumped platforms, and hit a couple of enemies. You obviously reached a bar, or some other place you can do/will have to do conversation. My question arise: where to put my skillpoint from levelup? Can I preserve it for later? IfI preserve it for later. can it turn out I lack sufficient speech skill to pick upquests/storylines/information? When will I'll have to start hacking, and how will that work and effect the gameplay? Enemies will obviously appear - if I upgrade my weapon skills will that turn to be a waste? I understand "choose your own stlye" games, I'm still fond of Fallout 1 and 2. But there you clearly had to emphacise on combat, and you clearly got benefit from lockpicking, stealing and investing in outdoorsman. And you had just the right amount of resources to fill your needs. The benefits of the support skill though were not determining, so you could endup just to see what happens putting pointsinto speech and science, not to mention there were books. And yougot not 1 skillpoint per level, but 10-20, so they could be spread, and level support-skills the way you almost didn't notice. So I'm standing there since literaly weeks, and I never turned on the game ever again.
