Descent

Descent was one of the first PC games I've ever played, recently I gave it another go and... It's still everything I remember! With the Rebirth Mod you can even play in widescreen with mouse and keyboard as if it was a modern shooter. The balance is kind of broken sometimes, with hitscan enemies destroying your ship as soon as you turn a corner or open a door, but the game isn't hard everytime and also it isn't very long. You can find a lot of weapons ranging from lasers, miniguns and missles, with levels offering a good variety of enemies and an awesome soundtrack to follow. It's one of those classics that aren't so remembered as it deserves, but one that surely still plays very well.

The first Descent version I played was the Playstation version in the 90's and I immediately fell in love with it. However it was a very hard game for me at that time, so I never finished. I was very happy when I saw it was available at GOG.com, so I purchased it and I'm having the best time. The experience is even better with a modern port like DXX-Redux, which is the one I'm using.

This was an incredible game in its time. Modern games often lack the "fun" factor, with over-complicated and generic gameplay, The feel of the game, the way the ship moves around and the weapons system and the menus and map all just work. It's not dumb, but it's also not complicated and cluttered, meaning that you spend the time playing the game and not managing inventory or wasting time trying to figure out how to work out a certain problem. It meets the only criteria that matters - it's fun.

First mesmerized by this game in 1998 and, despite the pixellated graphic rendering, FINALLY beat the Boss!! Always wanted to play again since, and found the package of all 3, just 2 months ago. Now, I have logged OVER 200 hours in just 45 days!! My favorite game of ALL shooters!

I'm sure everyone has a lot to say about the game, but I thought I'd let people know I played this on an M1 Macbook and it worked great.
