In a grim dystopian future, where mankind has scattered across the galaxy and the human society has split into two distinct classes, you are a poor stateless outcast forced to live off scraps from derelict alien stations and ships in the outer space, yet you dream of becoming a privileged citizen and living on the surface of a habitable planet, enjoying non-synthetic air, water and food. A fabled alien derelict ship somewhere within the Deep Sky sector of space is your voucher for a citizenship and a promise of cozy life on a hospitable planet.
Build and control a squad of up to three mercenary characters and set on to explore derelict ships within your reach from the scavenger's base. Searching the derelicts for loot and clues, you come across many friendly inhabitants and traders, but more often – various enemies. Challenge and defeat them in tactical turn-based fights, where randomly-drawn cards form your changing arsenal of combat actions, gain experience for yourself and your crew, loot dead bodies, resupply and upgrade once back at your base. The scavenger's home ship gives you the opportunity to heal and level-up your mercenaries, recruit new ones, equip them, upgrade their gear or recharge energy for life support during missions.
Key Features:
Fresh take on turn-based combat with cards
Refined sci-fi comic book look & feel
Endless customization options for characters and scavenging teams
High replay value thanks to procedural generation of content
Story of the human society divided within a dystopian universe
It's not nearly as polished as Darkest Dungeon, but it's also far less tedious and requires far less time to min-max yourself to victory. I really enjoyed how both card game and various combat mechanics are allocated among the 6 different character classes, allowing you to build teams optimized for different gimmicks. And I was impressed by how the equipment system doubles as a non-trivial deck building tool.
The UI is unfriendly in a number of ways, but the mechanics are worth looking past that.
Took me about 16 hours to finish, my first team ran out of money, second one turned out too weak for the final derelict and the third one murdered everything effortlessly.
I was really expecting to play this game, because the cartoonish dark sci-fi touch was really appealling.
This game would recommended to any cards game kind player - which I am not. I enjoyed playing it gor a few hours but it becomes quickly repetitive to my tastes.
The main concern with this game I was expecting to play at first on my 10 years old Linux laptop, is requirements for a Shader 4.0 videocard.
Where hell is that shader level required for such a game???
Reasons to play this: 1) Love of Roguelikes- aka replayability. 2) Love of card-based tactical combat. 3) Extreme variety- any class combination you want + ability to use tools not related to class. 4) Great deal while on sale.
In an effort to maximize the enjoyability of those just starting I highly recommend reducing the total number of cards you have in any deck to less than 10 (at least to start). This means you have the maximum control of each battle by simplifying whether to attack, defend, buff, or debuff. Hold off on specialization unless it absolutely fits what you need for that moment and team configuration; take the time to reflect on whether you actually needs those tree skills as it means you have to further divide your already small pool of points. Most importantly, have fun. Experiment with different class combinations and tools for each group to see what compliments their strengths and more importantly, their weaknesses.
I've played two runs and enjoyed it. First one was much more interesting as I had to experiment on the fly. I also felt the tension picking which ship to do next, or making my way through one. On the second I already knew many strong combinations and breezed through. Hand drawn graphics look very good and fit the game well. Overall, if you think you might like it - I'd recommend giving it a go.
I got this on give away and regret the time taken to download and install. It suffers all the problems that these type of games seem to consider a virtues such as horrible RNG and unpleasant difficulty spikes. Just don't waste your time as there are way better games for less money.
