Description
Deathtrap is a grim, gory Action-RPG / Tower Defense hybrid. Choose from three playable classes and start building traps and towers before the hordes of twisted monsters reach the gates to our world. You can use your character as well, move around freely and attack the monsters yourself for a better result. Manage your skill tree, your upgrades, and your equipment, or just craft new items: this game has everything that an Action RPG needs. Battle against increasingly stronger enemies, change tactics depending on the situation, team up with a friend if you want to, and use your resources wisely to succeed.
  • A truly unique mixture of Tower Defense games and action-RPGs.
  • You and your traps against the whole otherworld: Defeat the hordes in an incredible single player campaign! You are on your own, so it's a good thing that you have deadly devices and powerful spells.
  • Team up with other heroes and save the world together...: Cooperative campaign with specially designed maps.
  • …or you can just show your friends your true personality: Players can set against each other in this game mode, where the defender prepares traps and defensive tactics, while the attacker has the ability to possess and control directly any creature in his or her army and employs skills to weaken the opponent or boost the invaders.
  • Knee-deep in blood: in the goriest Tower Defense game ever you can finally teach those monsters a savage lesson. Deathtrap gives you destructive spells and deadly mechanisms to smash, freeze, burn the creatures of nightmare, only to mention a few ways that can turn them into tiny, bloody pieces.
  • Rewards of curiosity: Find the hidden corners on the maps and hunt down the neutral creatures hiding away from the battle for exclusive loot; you can also solve rewarding side quests as well.
  • Become one of the specialists: Choose from 3 diverse classes (Mercenary, Sorceress, and Marksman); each class offers different tactics, skills and powers to dispose your enemies.
  • With experience comes wisdom – and brand new ways to deal with those annoying invaders: The extended and detailed character development offers you 100 levels to achieve and more than 50 Skills per class.
  • Weapons of destruction have never been so much fun: fend off the invaders with 25 deadly traps and more than 150 trap upgrades, not to mention the very special upgrades, which are tied to challenging and fun achievements.
  • Enter a truly grim fantasy netherworld: the Ink, the mysterious otherworld in the Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing games has hidden regions and ancient secrets; now can face what is waiting in those depths.
  • Gear up and stand your ground: The detailed equipment mechanics and the comprehensive loot system make your inventory highly customizable.
  • A wide variety of horrors to defeat: Invaders come in 3 races and more than 40 different types; the countless combination of monster abilities will make the invading swarms even more colorful.
  • Make your legendary weapons even more effective: Artifact crafting gives you new ways to experiment with lethal magical items.
  • King of the Maze: The leaderboards and the rank system lets you compete with other players.

Good tower defense game

Deathtrap is a good game that flew under my radar until I picked it up on the Humble Staff Picks Bundle. If you like tower defense games(Defender's Quest/Defense Grid) with a bit of Diablo you should buy it. The graphics and the music are good. Story is thread bare, the initial mechanics are good. However the later game mechanics and traps need work (you can't set the direction of the spring trap). I have gotten up to the eleventh map so far so I feel I can review it. I played the hell out of 11 maps so far. I hear there are only 13, but you can go back to play on higher tiers. It sounds repetitive, but I have gone back to get more stars and it stays engaging (some subquests also unlock). Each map is individually made rather than pieces assembled from a kit so it feels like alot effort was put into the game. Your character levels up and you get skill points you can use to enhance your character's abilities or make traps cheaper/produce more xp/get more goodies at the end of the level. You also get research points for getting stars on a map to unlock trap upgrades. The way you get experience is limited to prevent grinding. You only get xp from a map if you are NOT 5 levels higher than map number. Map 5 will not give you xp if you are level 11. It will still give you gold and crafting supplies, but I have yet to find the crafting system useful and the store is barely useful. I keep accumulating gold. To make crafting more useful I would recommend to the devs to add more recipe drops. The ugly: the game stutters alot and has crashed on me twice. When the character is loading, when you switch to the store or crafting, when you select a map to choose your tier. Never during the actual tower run where it really matters. Might be because it's on a second hard drive. The game has crashed once when I was exiting the game. The second after I beat a map. My game was saved regardless so it was only a minor annoyance.

Not playable on AMD graphics cards

Since the amd graphics drivers got updated in late spring the game is not playable anymore. The devs are aware of the problem but havent fixed it for months. So if you have an amd graphics card DO NOT BUY! Otherwise the game is a fabulous, story driven tower defense, rpg hybrid. If you loved Van Helsing you will love this too. Would have rated with four stars if the game was still supported. As such it gets 2 stars cause its not playable.

Great - but not perfect - entertainment

Deathtrap is a mix of action RPG and tower defense that works surprisingly well. You set traps and then run or teleport between them and help them do the job. As you progress through the game, you upgrade the traps and gain access to new ones, and your character levels up and gains access to new attacks and passive skills (the game is set in the Van Helsing universe, so if you've played the Incredible Adventures, you'll feel at home). Reviewed after some 280 hours. The good: Graphics and music. The neon colors and epic music we usually want from our ARPGs. Replayability. The three characters require different enough strategies for you to want to try it from a different angle, and after you complete the 13 maps, you can play them again on higher tiers (there are 4 in total). The higher tiers often have special traps or a very different set of trap slots, which often requires a completely different strategy. On most of the maps, I had more fun with them on the higher tiers. It's usually not "the same map on higher difficulty", it's "a very different play on the same stage". The bad: Lack of polish - e.g., I'd have appreciated at least a little end sequence after completing the highest map on the highest tier (there's one only when you complete tier 1). Also, I felt too much nudging towards multiplayer. It didn't make me try it, it just irritated me. And there are some balance issues. The last few maps on the highest tier practically require you to completely change the build of your character for each of them in a certain way. This build-to-fit-the-map trial x error detached me from the characters. And while on each map, you can level up max 2 levels in the campaign mode, I played one game on one map in the endless mode, made it through about 30 waves of enemies - and got from level 63 to level 84. Then you go, "Why do I bother with the campaign?" Verdict? A fun blend of ARPG and tower defense. I had the fun for almost 300 hours but am not leaving with "I want more!"

Can't reccomend due to bugs

The game seems to have an issue with AMD video cards. Randomly you will get an hour glass and blank screen that will resolve itself quickly. The real probelm I am facing is that I can't progress past mission 8. Everytime I start the next mission the game freezes and I have to kill it with task manager. I have tried for hours to fix this but no luck review date 6/10/17

excellent tower defense

It is an excellent tower that i have buy on steam during the early acces and i have buy it again on gog. The life of the game is very long but the problem is for me the multiplayer. It is very difficult to find other player online to play coop mod and more difficult to play versus mode. It is the most important problem for me. The characters are varied and the loot is very interesting. When characters get a high level, the ennemies are difficult, especially in later levels to get 3 stars I highly recommend this game if you love tower defense style.
