Great game, terrible port

This game is really weird and junky... And it's charming in its own way. Heavily inspired by Twin Peaks. It has that same dreamy atmosphere (and plot and characters are very similar). The game has two layers. In the first one, you travel through the town, talk to NPCs, complete side quests. In the second one, you enter some sort of nightmarish reality where you shoot the zombies and look for the clues. However, this port is broken. You may have zero issues or those preventing you from progressing the game (or launching it at all), depending on your luck. I had problems especially with the chapter 9, when my save file was corrupted. I had to use another one downloaded from the internet to continue the game. You see, the game saves to only one file. You need to back up your save files in case your file gets corrupted. The game is definitely worth playing through. It's shame they did such a poor job with this port.

What on earth were the devs thinking?

This is a pretty early review...I've played maybe 20-30mins so far but here are my list of complaints First, the control is just terrible. First thing you will notice is that the controls are only bindable outside of the game which sucks. Then you will find out you cannot use mouse buttons for anything. Then you will try to change the keys to something else on the keyboard and it will tell you that that key is not supported. This is already pretty terrible but it's not until you finally get into the game that you're going to find out just how far into the septic tank things have fallen. The aiming is messed up beyond anything you can imagine. Not only is aiming all kinds of just screwed up with the camera only moving as you get to the edges of the screen, but when you shoot your mouse locks into place so you can't adjust your aim. If your combat is garbage it's best to not have much, or any in the game but no, this game goes all out with infinitely respawning enemies. I don't know what they were thinking. Second, there are no graphics options.....at all. Not even for resolution. Be prepared for some seriously awful graphics. Third, and this really annoys me when I am trying to configure things to feel good, is the starting logos cannot be skipped. I just want to start the game, I don't want to watch this trash every time. Fourth, and this is like some kind of joke, they're trying to sell this broken mess for almost $35. I picked it up for $3.40 and I still feel like I may have been ripped off. Anyways maybe there is a good story here, but it's like trying to read of a book that's been buried under a mountain of turds. It's just not worth digging it out.

Good game riddled with technical issues

I've never had such mixed feelings about a game before... On the one hand, I really liked the story, the characters (the English voice acting not so much...) and the atmosphere. It was like playing the video game version of 'Twin Peaks', one of my favorite shows of all time - and I didn't quite understand every detail in the plot, which is another similarity for me between the two. :D On the other hand, I simply can't overlook all the technical issues and glitches I encountered during my playthrough. I don't know about other versions, but the PC port is downright terrible: random crashes which make you lose your progress, frame rate and resolution problems, no proper controller support, horrible controls... Seriously, I lost track how many times I had to restart my PC while playing. As for the gameplay, I think it might have been better if the game was more like 'Silent Hill' or 'Alan Wake', and less like 'Grand Theft Auto' or 'The Sims'. The main quest was fun, but the open-world setting with all the side activities, and navigating through unnecessarily large but mostly empty environments with a car while paying attention to your hunger and tiredness... Personally, I wasn't very fond of those aspects. Anyway, Iif you want to give this one a go, maybe try it on another platform, I really wouldn't recommend the PC version.

Great game, crashes galore

Its a really interesting edge-of-your-seat kind of game, but its a shame that the PC port is totally unplayable. I don't really mind the low resolution textures or any other issues, as long as I can beat the game. But the game has the tendency to keep crashing at the same point over and over again, until you find a fix for it by searching on the internet for hours. In spite of this, there is every chance that there exists no fix for your crash, because these crashes happen at different points for different people. If you get stuck with a crash, then NOTHING will help you in fixing it. I myself am in a situation where the game keeps crashing at a particular point. I was able to get past previous crashes, but this time nothing seems to help. I tried all suggested options (playing in windowed mode, using the third part dpfix and even using compatibility settings), but my efforts were in vain. As of now, this game is COMPLETELY broken and next to unplayable. I definitely don't recommend buying it, because its highly unlikely that that developers would even release patches for this game. I wasted my hard earned money on this crash-prone game. Totally disappointed. In fact, I wonder how this broken game was even approved for sale by GOG and Steam.

it's peak

This is the best worst game i've ever played, gripping story, "fun" gameplay but terrible at the same time. If you have an open mind, this is a great game. Get it on xbox 360 or ps3. The pc port always explodes. (The gog version is slightly better than the steam version out of the box)
