Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut

i didn't really know anything about deadly premonition until a few years ago and even then my only knowledge about the game was, that it's supposed to be bad and crashes a lot. when talking to people who've actually played the whole game, i quickly found out, that many people dislike the game ironically and that it's more of an inside joke. when playing the game myself, i was surprised by how much this game had to offer, especially the atmosphere, that makes it feel like you're on a vacation. deadly premonition is a very relaxing game and i think, the flaws only add to its comedy. the game also crashes a lot, sometimes it doesn't crash for hours, sometimes it crashes over and over at the same spot, even if it didn't crash there at your last playthrough and sometimes it crashes just unpredictably. it crashes especially often if you replay a chapter so you should do all sidequests in your main playthrough. if the game crashes at the same spot over and over again, try playing in windowed mode and tab out of the game, before it crashes, this worked for me every time.

I just beat the game today. Let me say that the story is where this game shines. It's gripping and very mysterious. The gameplay however is a bit below average but it's not really all that bad. It just sort of gets the job done. If you're interested in this experience I highly recommend you play in on PS3/X360 instead. This game is crash city. Even with DPfix and unofficial patches I still had roughly about 20+ crashes through the experience and had to use a backup save once to keep myself from losing roughly 10hrs of gameplay. I probably never would of put up with a game this buggy but I really enjoyed the story and decided to fight my way through til the end. I truly hope a proper sequel is made that actually runs decent in the future.

Ok. What do you get when you're make a budget game that's a detective drama, add that survival horror mechanics, wrap it all in a layer of comedy horror and set it in a town which is Twin Peaks in everything but name in which you are free to drive around and explore its shops, bars, characters, and barge into their private homes, or take a peek inside when they begrugingly refuse to open the door for you? You get an utter mess. Add to that a PC port from the depths of hell and you are in for a really bad time. But you know what? Its completely and utterly worth it because you feel yourself deeply invested in the game world and story to the very end credits and even afterwards. This is an unforgettable mass that will leave you thinking long after you've completed it. Its entertaining as hell and keeps you on your toes at every turn. There is special care given to detail in this game which will compel you to carry on through the game crashing, which happens a lot. Luckily save points are peppered quite generously throughout so be sure to not walk by telephone a booth without giving a call back to HQ.

It doesn't work on Windows 11

The actual content in this game is very mesmerising. The story, characters, music all are very well done, and i even find the graphics to have a certain charm to them. The gameplay isn't the best, actually, its pretty bad. Gameplay aside, the story will keep you hooked, the problem however, is that the game is completely broken. I can't remember the last time I was this frustrated with a game. It crashes constantly, the sounds get distorted, the cars do a full 360 spin with a slight touch of the thumbstick. For those thinking you're going to download a fan patch or something, think again, even Durante's DPfix completely broke my controller support and made the game unplayable. For those who really want to play this game, stay far away, as much as i enjoyed the story, in retrospect i'd much rather watch an xbox 360 version letsplay on youtube. BUYER BEWARE!
