You are Isaac Clarke, an engineer on the spacecraft USG Ishimura. You're not a warrior. You're not a soldier. You are, however, the last line of defense between the remaining living crew and deadly reanimated corpses. The undead have become Necromorphs; horrific zombie-alien hybrids that won't succumb to traditional means. Fortunately, your offense is equally unique, as the high-powered mining tools at your disposal provide the means to fight against the threat.
Messy monster slaying.
The Necromorphs are unlike any enemies you've seen before. Headshots do about as much damage to them as flicking rubber bands. To survive, you'll need to dismember their insect-like limbs, one at a time.
Improvised weapons.
There aren't many traditional firearms aboard the Ishimura, but there's plenty of stopping power in Isaac's toolkit. Send horizontal or vertical blasts of energy at enemies with the Plasma Cutter, remotely control a high-speed sawblade with the Disc Ripper, and fill hallways with wide swaths of destruction with the Line Gun. Switch things up with alternate fire modes, and purchase upgrades to increase ammo, power, and reload speed.
Real-time attacks.
Whatever you do, don’t drop your guard. Everything takes place in real-time. That means any action you take, whether it be reloading or digging through your inventory, gives the Necromorphs a perfect opportunity to attack. This nightmare has just begun and it’s up to you to get to the bottom of what happened here.
One of the best horror games out there, great upgrade system and possibly the best enemies I've seen in any video game. Wished the story was longer and deeper ( that's what she said ) but overall it is an almost perfect game. Avoid it if you get scared easily or if you have heart problems.
I've played through this before on console and loved the game. Hopefully the rest of the series will come to GOG.com at some point in the future. However, the port of this seems to have been rushed as it's lacking quite a few options noteably borderless window mode. The color correctionbuilt into this is pretty lousy as well, with bright or slightly less bright being the only options. Its buggy as well as there is an invisible wall at the very first door, that I don't know how EA even managed to miss. The fact that this game has been out on GOG for a few years now and that hasn't been fixed shows how much EA really doesn't care about the game. Its really disapointing and it's no wonder the series didn't get the sales EA demanded of it.
I loved this franchise ever since I got into it via 2, and when I discovered it was available on GOG, totally DRM-free, I knew I had to buy this. Especially since now I can play and install however many times I want without getting my legally-purchased game suddenly blocked off by obtrusive and atrocious DRM that only publishers like.
The major gripes I have is that it feels rather slow when using a mouse, so I use a controller instead. Otherwise, it plays like a dream. Still wish it would go up to 60 FPS on its own like literally any other AAA game out there, but they can't all be winners.
Here's hoping Dead Space 2 arrives on GOG sometime as well.
This is an awesome game. First played this game in 2021. Being a big fan of science fiction and horror, I was pleasantly surprised how great this game is
