You are Isaac Clarke, an engineer on the spacecraft USG Ishimura. You're not a warrior. You're not a soldier. You are, however, the last line of defense between the remaining living crew and deadly reanimated corpses. The undead have become Necromorphs; horrific zombie-alien hybrids that won't succumb to traditional means. Fortunately, your offense is equally unique, as the high-powered mining tools at your disposal provide the means to fight against the threat.
Messy monster slaying.
The Necromorphs are unlike any enemies you've seen before. Headshots do about as much damage to them as flicking rubber bands. To survive, you'll need to dismember their insect-like limbs, one at a time.
Improvised weapons.
There aren't many traditional firearms aboard the Ishimura, but there's plenty of stopping power in Isaac's toolkit. Send horizontal or vertical blasts of energy at enemies with the Plasma Cutter, remotely control a high-speed sawblade with the Disc Ripper, and fill hallways with wide swaths of destruction with the Line Gun. Switch things up with alternate fire modes, and purchase upgrades to increase ammo, power, and reload speed.
Real-time attacks.
Whatever you do, don’t drop your guard. Everything takes place in real-time. That means any action you take, whether it be reloading or digging through your inventory, gives the Necromorphs a perfect opportunity to attack. This nightmare has just begun and it’s up to you to get to the bottom of what happened here.
While I wouldn't call this game "survival" horror, it's definately a great horror title, which was rare for those days. After Resident Evil 4 killed the survival horror genre, everybody was trying to get themselves some of those sweet sweet action horror shekels. EA is no exception. But Visceral did a great job before EA butchered them. Dead Space 2 world be nice too if EA plays nice with CD Projekt and GOG. They could make some good monies and you won't have to resort to downloading that God forsaken EA app. So send EA a message and buy this game on GOG. Maybe we will get the other two titles in the future.
Game is amazing when it comes to it dark graphics it almost looks better than most current gen horror games. Game was so good they had to make a remaster which is hard to tell apart from it orginal.
Dead Space was the first video game I ever wanted to play when I was younger. I never actually bought the game though and forgot about it. Saw it on sale not long ago and jumped on it. If you've never played it before, don't let its age detur you. It's gameplay has aged well in my opinion, its visuals are somewhat outdated but not to the point of being distracting, it is loads of fun and really draws you in. Did I mention it's scary? Yeah, it's like a 10 hour survival gauntlet and by the end of it you feel like you actually spent the most stressful night of your life on the USG Ishimura. I'd put this game in my top three recommendations to anyone, any day. Play the game. Make us whole.
One of the best horror games out there, great upgrade system and possibly the best enemies I've seen in any video game. Wished the story was longer and deeper ( that's what she said ) but overall it is an almost perfect game. Avoid it if you get scared easily or if you have heart problems.
I've played through this before on console and loved the game. Hopefully the rest of the series will come to GOG.com at some point in the future. However, the port of this seems to have been rushed as it's lacking quite a few options noteably borderless window mode. The color correctionbuilt into this is pretty lousy as well, with bright or slightly less bright being the only options. Its buggy as well as there is an invisible wall at the very first door, that I don't know how EA even managed to miss. The fact that this game has been out on GOG for a few years now and that hasn't been fixed shows how much EA really doesn't care about the game. Its really disapointing and it's no wonder the series didn't get the sales EA demanded of it.
