An excellent, spooky, and well crafted gothic puzzle adventure game. I haven't finished it just yet but am enjoying every minute of it! Got really stumped on one chapter but felt very satisfying when I figured out what I was missing.
The main game itself is apparently quite short but thankfully the free dlc extends it.
Highly recommend it if you are a fan of these types of games.
I've had this game on my wish-list for forever and just recently bit the bullet since it went on sale. I'm not disappointed!
I went in knowing that the game was supposed to be unique, as many of the other reviews have said. I usually try to avoid comparing games before I've played them both, so I went in understanding I was going to get a unique experience.
No reason this game shouldn't be a 5 star for anyone getting the game with the understanding of what they are getting!
First, it's short. You can finish the game in an evening if you really wanted to... But I savored it over the course of a few evenings. Second, the sound effects along with the backgrounds really developed a great atmosphere in which to foster creepiness. Third, the puzzles are not too difficult, but some had me running around a little bit before kicking myself that I missed an item or that something needed to be done before I could proceed. (Get ready to pull a bunch of levers and run like mad to the next one!) Fourth, the creatures were very unique. They all reminded me of distorted things that a kid might have nightmares about that are loosely based on real life things. That's what the game does great: It brings a kid's nightmares to life in such a way that makes me think I might have had those same nightmares! It was a fun experience, and I can't wait to work through the DLC's!
The puzzle elements are fairly light but they don't feel pointless, and the perspective-changing mechanics are interesting to see. The art style is great (the colour palette reminds me a bit of Thief 3), and is atmospheric and stylish.
There are a few puzzles that were a bit irritating (the camera-rotating maze), and a few bugs that really ought to be looked into (if the magnet puzzle isn't working and your machine is older, turn down the graphics and/or disable vsync!) but aside from that this game is a lot of fun!
It's a shame that the game is so short (took me roughly two and a half hours) because it's really really good. The puzzles and level design are clever and interesting and the style is like something from Tim Burton.
I hope we see more from the creator in the not-too-distant future.
Darq was a nice little surprise, it builds the atmosphere very well with the sound design and art and there where a few really effective scares. The puzzles while not especially hard, where varied enough and every chapter had it's own unique themes and mechanics. Some migth say it's too short, but i would rather have a game be short and good rather than overstay it's wellcome. So many games
