Darkwood provides a new perspective on survival horror.
Scavenge and explore the rich, ever-changing free-roam world by day, then hunker down in your hideout and pray for the morning light.
Survival horror from a top-down perspective that is terrifying to play.
By day explore the randomly generated, ever-sinister woods, scavenge for materials, craft weapons and discover new secrets.
By night find shelter, barricade, set up traps and hide or defend yourself from the horrors that lurk in the dark.
Gain skills and perks by extracting a strange essence from mutated fauna and flora and injecting it into your bloodstream. Watch out for unexpected consequences.
Make decisions that impact the world of Darkwood, its inhabitants and the story you experience.
Meet eerie characters, learn their stories and decide their fate. And remember - don’t trust anyone.
As nights go by, the lines between reality and nightmarish fantasies begin to blur. Are you ready to step into Darkwood?
If you're not sure how to do certain things in-game, then just go into options and look at the controls menu. If this game is that diffucult then just play on normal. I'll admit that I had my "well now what do I do" moments, but that is what the journal is for. Other than that I don't understand all of the negative reviews.
Good things
Visual part - 5
Sound - 5
Controls -5
etc - 5
If I no mistake - I saw only one developer(code) in team, if it true, then he/she probably true hero.
Bad things.
For me it become boring, because to hard to guess what to do next.
I saw some replay to understand where to go next at least 2 times. In both cases because of misunderstanding where path to new location is. For example go to some dark behind map border or through some root, which seems like a wall.
Unforgiving game - no, because I actually do mostly more than ok in case of resources and death means nothing. For this game - permanent death is not good option, because it has some story, so it will do things even more boring.
Many locations want some codes to enter, which I mostly don't know and seems it is not really worth it.
Many locations not adjust the story line or adjust not much, if location has additional resources - those not needed(because all ok with it)
Some events not occurred or didn't noticed by me, for example invitation to some locked locations, locked by code.
Probably bad things related to my age, probably for younger people, who has more time it will be ok.
In case of no idea where to go - see some replay, it will save your time and become more enjoyable.
In the end - mixed feelings, definitely not 5/5 in my case.
I liked what little I played of this game well enough. Then the Poles who made it handed the sequel over to russians, while russia's busy bombing cancer clinics and children's hospitals 800 km from the Polish border nigh on four years. Give it some time and you'll know what air raid sirens sound like in your cities too. You guys freaking suck
The atmosphere is oppressive and gut-wrenching, and that's the only thing I liked about the game.
What I didn't like:
- The controls are clunky at best.
- Everything is so dark and small that after one hour of playing I had to stop because it was too taxing on my eyes.
- If your idea of fun is hiding because you have no way to fight back, go for it. Not my cup of tea, though.
- You can find rubbish lying here and there to use in the crafting system. Too bad that everything in the game will kill you with ease and exploration is heavily punished. Wasting resources and ammo to find a nail and a piece of rope? (provided you are able to survive more than a few steps) Yeah, seems like a good deal...
Bottom line: If you like to be punished for everything you do, feeling powerless and frustrated and having to face unavoidable death you will enjoy the game... also, you should see a psychologist.
I don't know about you, but if I were inside a horror movie I like to be the one who survives, not the first to die.
