Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse – stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between Heaven and Hell. In the slaughter that ensued, the demonic forces defeated the heavenly hosts and laid claim to the Earth.

Brought before the sacred Charred Council, War is indicted for his crimes and stripped of his powers. Dishonored and facing his own death, War is given the opportunity to return to Earth to search for the truth and punish those responsible.

Gamebreak bugs, developers refuse to fix

Game breaking bug in Twilight Cathedral area roughly two hours in, where you need to pick up an items to unlock a gate of some kind. When I picked up the second item out of three needed, the bug happened causing the item to get lost forever and unable to pick it up again. Weird bug I thought, so I reloaded my last save to before I picked it up. Did the puzzle again, and got the item only for the bug to happen again. Looked it up online, apparently it was in the original 2010 release and they didn't bother to fix it there or in this remaster. I'd understand if it was some minor visual glitch, but a literally game-breaking bug that hard-locks progression and it wasn't fixed after a decade? Uninstalled it immediately.

Flawed, but fun

Darksiders is a fun game pulled back by a few weird porting decisions when it comes to the control scheme and button layout. It is playable on mouse and keyboard, though it does show that the original layout was meant for a controller. Still if you want something that's a cross between Zelda and the original God of War it's worth it.

A great experience

I recently decided to play all three Darksiders in chronological order, in an effort to cull down my game backlog. So what better place than to start with the first entry in the series? If you wanted to experience the edgyness of late 2000s and early 2010s, this game has heaps of it. Channel your inner emo/angsty teen and follow War on his journey to uncover the truth. Outside of me being unable to unhear Illidan (same VA after all) while also visualizing Arthas instead of War, I gotta give kudos for the wonderful job all around. The voice acting (what a cast!) is spot on, the environments are beautiful and varied, the music compliments the visuals and atmosphere nicely. there's a constant flow in the storytelling and the dialogue is sensical, and the various characters and enemies are well designed. Combat is very hack-n-slash. It reminded me a good bit of Devil May Cry where you progressively unlock new moves and combos for the different weapons you gain throughout the story. It didn't become stale either, it was quite satisfying the majority of the time. There aren't many repeats, or reskins, of enemies throughout the game, thankfully. A couple of the floating ones can be annoying to fight, but you eventually gain sub-weapons and skills to deal with them better. Every area where you have to find a big baddie had a huge Zelda dungeon feel to it. You go through rooms in a certain pattern to find keys to unlock more of the dungeon, find the special item, then keep going until you get to face the boss of the place. Each dungeon has its own gimmick, with the final one requiring you to use each of them at some point or another. My missing star is due to 2 things: the game is definitely rough around the edge and it's noticeable at times, and there were a couple of times where a puzzle or encounter difficulty spiked for no reason whatsoever. The game still holds well despite the years, I thoroughly enjoyed.

Devil May Cry meets Castlevania

Gee, what to say. The game contols feel a bit clunky - when comming form Dragon's Dogma background. I like how the combat has both weight and speed, almost...comic book like ;) Anyway, controls are definitely overblown for K+M, and though I can tighten them a bit by binding few actions to the same keys they interefere with eachother defintely too often for my taste. 2- There's a lot of flashy moves - most not really impactful. IOW The usual stuff, nothng special - and few weapons - impactful on the other hand, in dealing with various obstacles, puzzles aso. The parrying is my pet peeve, no clear mechanics behind it, nothing apparent afer hours of playing at least. Have to know the timing for every attack, or else. Also blocking. OMG how I hate the way blocking works. And don't even get me started on aiming. Ugh. The boss fights often annoy the hell out of me due to being so structured and with 0/1 mechanics. But that's me, who likes to have freedom of choosing the way I want to deal with the issue - again, Dragon's Dogma background. But no, you play the devs want you to or get out. I like the gore, though I wish it was more "complete" - like, I see enemies being torn to pieces, but the blood is nowhere to be found. Only in cutscenes. Some. The plot is ostensible, in a comic book manner, pretty on par with characters' models. Nothing special to note apart from that it's there. The same with in-game economy, it's there and works. Oh, and technically the game runs flawless. I'd cut some time from splash screens here and there, but apart from this it's a PC game alright, purrfection!
