New Game Mode - Kingdoms - Now Playable!
"This squalid Kingdom, these corrupted lands, they are yours now, and you are bound to them."
Kingdoms is an entirely new stand-alone strategic campaign game mode available to play now in Darkest Dungeon II.
Featuring a completely reimagined game structure, Kingdoms is a parallel game experience to the Confessions core game mode. You will be challenged to defend a crumbling realm against incursion from all new enemy factions. Manage a persistent roster of heroes, gather resources, and pursue an epic questline in order to track down and defeat the source of evil before all is lost.
Progress in each game mode is tracked separately, and you can freely switch back and forth between active sessions of either.
Kingdoms is being released in thematic modules, each focusing on a different enemy threat. The first module - “Hunger of the Beast Clan” - is available now!
Gather your courage and ride out into the chaos of a world undone.
Four heroes and a stagecoach are all that stand between darkness and salvation.

While i prefere the first game in most respects, the sequal defenetly are more approcheble when it comes to time investment.
it is much less daunting to say "just one run" and then leave it there, than playing the first for hours and hours, only to get stuck in a failure cascade that cost you your best team an a full run of loot.
And while i love the first, sometimes i do just one something a little bit ligther investemnt wise.
absolutly love that they have gone more indepth with the heroes canonical story, and they have add a lot of new and interesting enemies to slaughter
Not as good as Darkest Dungeon 1 ... could have been a lot better if they understood what the original game really had going for it and built upon those concepts. It's simplified, not as interesting, and lacks personality.
A notable improvement over the first game; conveyance is better, the grind is lessened, and some edges have been sanded down. The style, voice acting and atmosphere are all great, but once again they feel like they're built for a much shorter game, because their luster goes from charming to grating after the first dozen or so hours.
Whilst there are elements of skill in learning the turn based combat mechanics, they take a few hours to learn at most. From there the game mostly taxes your knowledge and chance against the dice; two elements that are positioned to stretch out gameplay as long as seemingly possible.
With this being a rogue-lite, there is a notable meta-progression, but one that feels substantially more tedious and grindy than it does interesting or fulfilling. Newly unlocked items being given to you for free on your next run is perplexing design that breaks runs into either a grind to improve future runs, or one where you actually attempt to beat the game, and means you're never starting out anywhere near an even footing.
Despite its high price point and production value, this is unfortunately not a rogue-lite that is built well to last. The packaging is gorgeous, but its fundamental design under the hood is terribly misaligned.
honestly for what Darkest Dungeon is you have to wonder what they could do to make a second game work. The on rail kind of traversal, the growing the team you want, everything about this is Darkest Dungeon with a fresh coat of paint and it has me wanting to play more and more
