In 2455 A.D. , Kage Hishima used the magical powers of the Daikatana, the most powerful sword ever forged, to alter time and establish himself as supreme ruler. You are Hiro Miyamoto, one of the few people on Earth who remembers what really happened. The burden of saving the world, your version of it, has fallen unto your shoulders. You’re not alone as your friends, Superfly Johnson and Mikiko Ebihara, travel by your side. You must gather weapons, overcome all obstacles, discover deviously concealed secrets, and battle a bewildering array of foes. Use your resources wisely as you’ll need all the help you can get. Are You Ready?!
From the rock star designer, John Romero, comes the legendary, in more ways than one, Daikatana (“long sword” in Japanese). Run ‘n’ gun is the norm here as you blast your enemies to oblivion with over 24 glorious, bad ass weapons. On top of the sweet, sweet guns, you are armed with the Daikatana--a weapon that grows in power the more you use it. Go on a wild time-tripping ride and make your enemies “Suck It Down!”
Wreak temporal havoc in 4 distinct time periods: ancient Greece, medieval Norway, near-future San Francisco, and high-tech Japan in 2455.
Incredible sidekicks as they provide cover fire, watch your back, and provide helpful feedback to assist you in your mission.
Pulse-pounding multiplayer action with two equally exciting modes of play: classic Deathmatch and Jewel Quest, a variant of capture the flag.
Throwback Thursday Recommendation
We share the earnest reasons that make a classic game so dear to us!
Recommended by Kilg0re, Stream Team: Daikatana is an underrated game in my opinion, that has an undeserved reputation for being a "bad" game. Though it certainly has it's janky issues, and there were many issues on release, there is a lot of fun to be had here. IMO, once you get past the drab, grindy opening episode (which is the one most people played in the shareware demo), the game really opens up in terms of graphics and level design. The John Romero approved community patch makes it much more playable on modern PCs, and I think even if it's not a bona fide masterpiece, when all is said and done, it's an ambitious fun experience.

I know why it got a release but what it needs is a fan mod to fix everything broken about it. Sadly what is broken is everything. There are no saving graces to this game, it is noones favourite, I seriously doubt anyone has any fond memories of this game.
Say what you like about Daikatana, ( and people do). But its a colorful, over the top, cheesey, flawed shooter where I can carry more than 2 weapons an a few grenades and on that basis alone its better than most crap around today, 5 stars
So, I'm not of any asian ethnicity here.
Need to say that now.
I got through most of the opening cutscene, until a specific point where a pair of characters display agonizingly "Yellow peril" era stereotype accents (think Mickey Rooney playing I. Y. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany's, or any number of stereotypical asian villain types in movies from anywere from the 40s to the 90s with a lot of L/R accent swaps and so on)
I'm not sure I'm interested in continuing the game. I already am aware of the problems with the gameplay itself, I got the game at its extreme discount fully knowing this (I grew up in the 90s, I remember that imfamous ad in magazines) but still...
I don't know if it's because the world has changed and I've changed with it, or if I'm just too much of a prude in my older age, I feel uneasy about continuing. Like I wish I could get a refund for it out of annoyance with having something so unneccessary thrown at me. It is out of place too, the other characters with speaking dialoge in the introduction do not have such accents and sound rather typical action movie in comparison so it just feels cheap and sleezy in an unneeded way to include that. Not really interested in learning if it gets any better, or worse.
this game had me wishing for more when i finally beat it years ago. i'm not even kidding either, becuase of how much everybody else hated it, people will think this review is a joke. its not, this game is literally one of my favorite games of all time. I look past all its flaws and just see it for the fun it has to offer, and i gotta tell you, if you willing to do that you'll find one of the greatest games out there in this game.
As other have said, this game is definitely underrated and does not deserve the negativity. It is certainly not the greatest game in the world but I had a good time playing it and still remember it fondly. I would recommend it to friends.
