Story is good, missions are awful

2.0 has been a big upgrade on the base game, but I have finally started on the PL missions and I hate them. The other missions in the base game have been fun, they allow you to play a certain way. Whether you want to go all stealthy or guns blazing or just hack people up. But Dogtown is awful, why is it so dark? I have had to fiddle with my gamma settings just so I can see where I am going. Going through the car park and scaffolding wasn't fun when I couldn't tell what was empty space or solid floor. The missions so far FORCE you to play stealth, for which this game is pretty unforgiving. I am still trying to avoid the patrols to get to some underground base and I have lost count of the times I have needed to reload. I have had a patrol just pop out of nowhere as they seem to know where I am. Guns blazing isn't an option, it is fun for a bit but all that happens is you end up with an infinite wave of enemies and can't shake the tail, then it becomes as tedious as trying to avoid the entire army. I now regret purchasing the DLC as for me, it has taken all the fun out of the game. I don't understand the high reviews for it, as so far the missions are the worst the game has had to offer. They are beyond tedious. If I play through again with a different build, I won't be doing any of the PL content as I can't be bothered to go through any of it again and I still have some way to go. The only part I have enjoyed, aside from getting the new Relic perks, is the story so far. But I don't know if I want to try and stealth my way through an enemy that already seems to know where you are and seemingly impossible to avoid to know the rest of the story. I am probably going to reload from before I started the PL missions and just enjoy the base game, at least those missions are fun.

Ending horrible everything else is great

Ok so let's get something straight. I played it on Steam so I don't know how the GoG version works. But I had no issues so take that for what it is. The expansion is great. Looks great, amazing atmosphere, best characters in the game, thrilling story. It's all superb. So why the 2 stars rating? The ending is horrible. No, not depressing, horrible. CDPR tried so hard not to create a "good" ending, they make a mockery of everything the base game stands for. I undestand that you sacrifice everything to live, which is fine and this is exactly whatt the Devil ending should have been. But no CDPR need to hammer in that you lose EVERYRTHING, so they make your friends betray you. The problem is that these Phantom Liberty versions of Judy and Panam are the opposite of their base game self. Base game Judy would never just forget V and be cold to her, yet Phantom Liberty Judy does that. Base game Panam would turn her back on family, Phantom Liberty Panam does. River gets corrupt, Kerry is cold and distant. After I played Phantom Liberty I went back to finish my 3rd playthrough. I could not do it. I looked at Panam, Judy etc and I HATED them. I save their lives, make them wanna go on and they just write me off. I stand at the Star ending and I ask myself? Are these the same people that wrote me off? To CD Projekt Red: hire some people who can actually write a good ending. Even I could have written a better ending. Or rather write multilple better endings.

Made me stop playing the game entirely

Full disclaimer, I didn't even finish the DLC. Not even close, because after what felt just like hours I just wanted to be done with it and return to the base game. To say I didn't enjoy my time would be an understatement as I've never seen a game take agency away from the player like this. I left such a sour taste that when I was finally able to return to the main game, I didn't touch it for months. 1. The intro missions They kept dragging on and on and on. From scripted combat encounter to scripted platforming section to scripted chase scene to scripted action set piece to scripted stealth section to scripted city introduction so on and so forth. I swear there must be at least 10 scripted instances of opening doors or clearing a passageway, it's that bad. I was waiting for hours for the dialouge option to say "Hey, I don't know any of you and I'll not continue to risk my live for you. I'm out." 2. The gameplay Just awful. Beyond everything being scripted, CDPR decided to what felt like quadruple enemy health and damage from the base game. My build used the strongest smart gun in the game with guaranteed headshots, automatic crits and any headshot multiplier and crit multiplier I could get and it would still take several magazines to take out single enemies. Get ready to cheese some encounters if you are a netrunner. But wait, the first major boss is a robot, so they will shine there with their quickhacks, right? Nope sorry, you need to shoot the glowy parts. 3. Characters and Story They never had a chance with me as I just hated how the story is forced on to the player. You are taken from one absurd and deadly scenario to another simply because one character forced their way inside your head and made vague promises. Once again, there is no player agency, you just have to accept this and risk your life over and over again for these new characters. After the chimera fight I started skipping all dialogues as I knew I would never finish this DLC.
