The game may look and feel sometimes stiff, occasionally has a bug or 10, but... at the end of my completionist journey, I remembered that the last game that put me on the couch and got me start looking for more psychological and philosophical books, was Soma. So.. in short, thank you CDPR for this wonderful story-telling experience. Your characters and stories were fantastic.
P.S. now that we understand through your game what corpos stand for, next time, do not rush your next magnum opus.
2.0 has been a big upgrade on the base game, but I have finally started on the PL missions and I hate them. The other missions in the base game have been fun, they allow you to play a certain way. Whether you want to go all stealthy or guns blazing or just hack people up. But Dogtown is awful, why is it so dark? I have had to fiddle with my gamma settings just so I can see where I am going. Going through the car park and scaffolding wasn't fun when I couldn't tell what was empty space or solid floor. The missions so far FORCE you to play stealth, for which this game is pretty unforgiving. I am still trying to avoid the patrols to get to some underground base and I have lost count of the times I have needed to reload. I have had a patrol just pop out of nowhere as they seem to know where I am. Guns blazing isn't an option, it is fun for a bit but all that happens is you end up with an infinite wave of enemies and can't shake the tail, then it becomes as tedious as trying to avoid the entire army. I now regret purchasing the DLC as for me, it has taken all the fun out of the game. I don't understand the high reviews for it, as so far the missions are the worst the game has had to offer. They are beyond tedious. If I play through again with a different build, I won't be doing any of the PL content as I can't be bothered to go through any of it again and I still have some way to go.
The only part I have enjoyed, aside from getting the new Relic perks, is the story so far. But I don't know if I want to try and stealth my way through an enemy that already seems to know where you are and seemingly impossible to avoid to know the rest of the story. I am probably going to reload from before I started the PL missions and just enjoy the base game, at least those missions are fun.
I can not play this game litterally because the files are getting corrupted after a view minutes of gameplay and the "Scan & Repair" function of GOG Galaxy does not fix this problem. I tried multiple SSDs and on non of them this error goes away.
Ok so let's get something straight. I played it on Steam so I don't know how the GoG version works. But I had no issues so take that for what it is.
The expansion is great. Looks great, amazing atmosphere, best characters in the game, thrilling story. It's all superb.
So why the 2 stars rating? The ending is horrible. No, not depressing, horrible. CDPR tried so hard not to create a "good" ending, they make a mockery of everything the base game stands for. I undestand that you sacrifice everything to live, which is fine and this is exactly whatt the Devil ending should have been. But no CDPR need to hammer in that you lose EVERYRTHING, so they make your friends betray you. The problem is that these Phantom Liberty versions of Judy and Panam are the opposite of their base game self. Base game Judy would never just forget V and be cold to her, yet Phantom Liberty Judy does that. Base game Panam would turn her back on family, Phantom Liberty Panam does. River gets corrupt, Kerry is cold and distant.
After I played Phantom Liberty I went back to finish my 3rd playthrough. I could not do it. I looked at Panam, Judy etc and I HATED them. I save their lives, make them wanna go on and they just write me off. I stand at the Star ending and I ask myself? Are these the same people that wrote me off?
To CD Projekt Red: hire some people who can actually write a good ending. Even I could have written a better ending. Or rather write multilple better endings.
