The general addition to the base game is good. But the intial introduction is not open world or an rpg. You have one path, and f'n quick`time events! Eventually the game opens up to be like the rest of the main game, and it's good again But if you choose to go the Reed path for the final section, then it's like a different game again. It's not open world, none of the abilities I've spent 100 hours on mean a thing. You have one path, and you don't get to use anything you've spent time investing in. Go with So-Mi if you want to use your skills. It's a very disappointing way to finish what could otherwise be fantastic.
"Phantom Liberty" builds impressively on the foundations of the base game by introducing a captivating spy thriller element. As someone initially unfamiliar with the cyberpunk genre, I found the learning curve steep but rewarding. Understanding the underlying themes of cyberpunk—previously introduced in the base game—can significantly enhance the gameplay experience. Unlike typical fantasy games where background knowledge is often pre-established, entering the cyberpunk world with some context can be beneficial.
As the game series has evolved, it feels as though I've experienced three distinct games, each with its unique appeal. I was already aware of "Blade Runner," but the base game and this expansion deepened my appreciation for the roles of street kid, corpo, and nomad. Since its release, I've found the game to be consistently engaging, although it initially needed some refinement. "Phantom Liberty" seems to be a high point of the series, especially with the improvements introduced in version 2.1.
"Phantom Liberty" infuses a spy thriller twist into the established cyberpunk setting, offering a fresh yet coherent addition to the narrative. I've recently started playing it, and it includes all the elements I loved in the base game and "The Witcher" series—stellar acting, a compelling story, and profound emotional depth.
The release of version 2.1 was timely, and it satisfies all the criteria of a great game. I now regard it as equal to "The Witcher 3," a game that has captivated me since its release. This expansion, along with one other title, represents one of the few games that have kept my attention. The gameplay in "Phantom Liberty" is flawless, the world is deeply immersive, and the story is heartfelt. The driving mechanics are particularly enjoyable. I only wish the game didn't have to end.
To the team. you guys did a great job. I always felt that way though you are the best game studio IMO.
I see so many negative reviews here, you guys are jaded, this is a great game, after it I became a fan of cdproject red and the cyberpunk setting.
I really liked the first variation of cyberpunk 2077 with the old balance as well, I played through the game back then and was left under a great impression, I had a really cool time with this game.
Then phantom liberty came out and I went through the game again, already with new impressions.
Cyberpunk 2077 phantom liberty is a great graphics, incredibly developed, live realistic world, which you believe in, it is a fascinating system of pumping, it is brilliantly developed main characters, which you will not forget, it is the main plot, which attracts at once and does not let go until the end, it is dozens or hundreds of interesting side activities.... I'm tired of writing, there's a lot more...
I'll just conclude that this is my favourite game!
I love it!, more verticality, more guns and a lot of hight quality new content for hours.
Note: I thought the expansion had DRM with gog galaxy installation, but it ins't (apparently). If you run the game without Galaxy Client in Administrator mode you can play the entire game and dlc without problems. Even so CD Projekt must check that problem and fix it.
DRM scandal aside, the main quest of the dlc was disapointing and the amout of new weapons was kinda lame too. The side quest and gigs were very well done and I really like dogtown. The frog voiced pooner weirded me out though.
