The main quest in the DLC contains more railroad gamedesign than the vanilla game: mandatory shooting segments, tiring spongy bosses, horror quest that not scary at all. The immersive sim-like elements are disappeard. For me they were important.
The next problem is the characters who are disconnected from the protagonist. Like I am a beholder of their stories and not an actve member.
Good sides: funny secondary characters, contracts are deeply designed than in the main game (but some contracts are also contain mandatory bosses), new music is good as always, new location is dense but unique, the game looks better than most of the new triple a games.
It's more directional, more post-apo. It's Escape from New York, in total immersion!
A coherent world with interesting, often moving and endearing characters.
A true espionage universe, where everyone plays every dirty trick in the book for their own benefit.
There's no doubt that CdProject knows how to write and tell stories.
But what's really great is that he manages to make us live the story as if it were our own, making the emotion intense and turning each of our decisions into a moral dilemma.
A great, powerful story.
Cyberpunk 2077 got me hooked very bad. I've spent 150 hours in the base game which (according to HLTB) is supposed to take 105 hours to finish if you are a completionist. I've enjoyed every minute of it. After 150 hours gameplay I've started the Phantom Liberty Expansion. It was a whole different experience. Beware, the beginning is quite long so first quests feel more linear than the rest of the game due to the fact that the quests are long but they offer more story and continuity too. But after few quests, the game offers the good old open world again. So the first quests feel a bit different than the base game which is more than welcome for me after 150 hours! So I don't really get some people complaining about the DLC. Also with this DLC CDPR have added an additional addictive mechanics to the game... the Airdrops... I've never invested time in any game to collect stuff just for the sake of collecting, I've always felt it was a waste of time. Somehow Cyberpunk 2077 broke my will, and Phantom Liberty (thanks to Airdrops) made it worse. All in all, I think CDPR absolutely have nailed it with this DLC. Too bad that there will be no other DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077.
