Some Good, a lot Bad

Sat in a darkened room, glass of tequila in one hand, shotgun in the other. Looking for reasons to keep on going as darkness closes in around you. Oh I'm talking about me by the way, not V. Another exercise in nihilisim from modern day video game writers. So sour and bitter at having their move scripts turned down, they take their disappointment out on us. Why can't I win in games anymore? Why does everything have to come with a soul crushing cost. This expansion has some really good story elements, a James Bond/Escape from New York type theme in the dystopian city of Night City. Sounds great and indeed I had a lot of fun from the quests in dog town. However the endings...both barrels are loaded. All I can say to the endings is put So Mi on the shuttle and give her the 'Lucy' ending, go all Omar/Brother Mzone on Stringer Bell and then forget that there was ever an option of a cure. The Bad - Bugs, Driving is possibly the worst it's ever been, Netrunning is now pretty much useless, Might as well walk around naked for as much use a clothing had become, Hate the new skill trees. Played a new full playthrough after making three new characters (one of each origin), started with Corpo, but at this point I think I'm done with CP2077. Those Street Kid and Nomad toons will get left to rot. My playtime is precious and valuable, to be sat here at the end thinking I wasted my time is the biggest sin a game developer can inflict on a customer. So ultimately after all that we're back where we were Chooms. Riding off into the sunset with Panam, Panam and Judy for Lady V or becoming a Night City Legend, but all with an uncertain future. Or you can just shoot yourself in the head.

Fun Expansion, Nothing Mind Blowing

So Phantom Liberty is a fun expansion with an expansive new story and a dozen or so detailed side missions. The main story revolves around 3 interesting new characters. They bark a lot of orders at you, but they've all got their own motives and were fun to interact with. The main story can branch off towards different endings depending on the player's choices (it's pretty obvious when this happens, which I appreciate). These endings are all kinda depressing, but the least depressing one was rather satisfying and maybe even a little uplifting. Don't worry though, they don't interact with the original game's endings I think (just introduces a new one). All the side missions are more unique and interesting than the numerous gigs you'll come across in the main game. This kinda makes me wish Cyberpunk wasn't as "open world" and prioritized quality over quantity, but that's a discussion for another time. I haven't played Cyberpunk before this big 2.0 update. But from what I gathered, most of the additions by the 2.0 patch are improvements in my opinion (you get this patch for free even if you don't own Phantom Liberty). The biggest and most important improvement I believe is the replenish-able inhaler/healing items. So instead of carrying around a bazillion healing items like in a fallout game, you now have an "estus flask" sort of healing item with a cooldown timer instead. Make what you will of that, but I believe it increases the challenge of most of the combat now. So with all that being said, the gameplay loop of going from Point A to Point B and talking or shooting is fun, but nothing addicting or massively enjoyable. It's a very competent shooter and narrates a buncha fun stories, but I was never really blown away. All in all, it's a fun expansion and definitely worth it if you enjoyed the main game. If not, check out the 2.0 free update and see if you like the changes.

Better that expected

After 4 years I give a 2° try with the new DLC. And is very good dlc, all wanted+the new updates. The story is fun, the characters are cool and interesting. Is a shame that is only 1 expansion and not 2 because now they have a very solid foundation of a game. A real shame.

Ok, nothing spectacular

I played this DLC twice to see if there's much difference depending on whatever you choose. Most of the time there's some small reactivity, like person A surviving instead of person B and you'll have a chat or something with the surviving party. Only the last mission is completely different based on the side you pick. The story itself is ok, but expects you to care about certain people even though there's little reason to do so. The level design seems very different from the original with much more emphasis on parkour, though you can still stealth through most of the stuff. Just remember to use sonic shock before other hacks. The most annoying thing in the DLC was scripted BS that doesn't allow you to play with the build you built. Like to rip and tear? Tough luck, mandatory stealth session with enemy invulnerability. Like stealth? Well, maybe you'd like to fight a boss in a cramped arena anyway...

The game just isn't good anymore.

Even if the DLC is good. This game went downhill fast since 2.0, due to the changes made to the core game. Remember all those grenades you crafted? NOPE! You dont get to keep them any more. You just get charges based on the rarity of your crafted grenade. Remember all those weapons you like to collect and sell? XX NOPE!!! You get nothing but broken weapons that automatically turn to scrap. Remember all those clothes and armor you collected because they had good stats? NOPE!!! They are worthless now! There's no point in buying clothes anymore. You might as well run around stark naked because YOU ARE THE ARMOR!! Even skills have been revamped in the worst way. And the Devs think this streamlined garbage is an improvement over the old formula? For who? A 5 year old kid? Everything the they got their dingy little fingers on, has been ruined from the original gameplay. Even weapons in your inventory aren't the same color compared to when you equip them anymore. Also... You can't upgrade your regular weapons you find in the field anymore, only the the iconic ones, of which some of them are quite frankly ugly, and I wouldn't be caught dead with them. And there are no longer zones where you gotta be careful, tactical, and play carefully, or else the bad guys with red skulls over their name tags with kill you outright. Now the whole world just levels with you. There are no more danger zones. It's all.......... SAFE..... This game has lost it's meat and potatoes that made it what it was. Now it feels like an MMO, streamlined for dum dums who can't be bothered to sort through their own inventory. Streamlined..... For your simple minded pleasure. Better luck next time CDPR...
