Some flaws, but absolutely worth it

The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was really rough, but even then there was a great story with great characters in the janky release. I never struggled with the bugs as much as others did, nothing was gamebreaking and nothing really ruined my experience. At the state Cyberpunk 2077 is in now, its got a lot of those bugs polished out. So with a story that is my favorite that CDPR has done so far and with memorable characters, what is really off about 2077? I'd say the biggest weakness of the game right now is some open world elements. Shops could feel more unique. Street Cred "FEELS" like it doesn't affect much (It does tho tbh). Some aspects of the open world are just not all there. NCPD missions can be really hit and miss. Some encounters are really nicely thought out glimpes of life on the streets of Night City with some fun shards to read. A lot are: Group of enemies is hanging out in a weird spot, kill them and read short shard about someone dying. It does get kind of boring and does incentivize you to kind of just kill them and skip even reading the shards, which means you can miss out on some fun stories. These little encounters cover the game map, but are not the only kind of side content that the player can find. Gigs are given by fixers and are usually both well designed and memorable. Some choices you make in gigs can find themselves showing their heads in other side quests which is pretty cool to see. Some gigs though aren't that well designed though, but I do feel these are fairly rare in the grand scheme of things. There are also of course actual side quests. These are all really great and I enjoyed all of them deeply. A new expansion for 2077 is on the way currently, Phantom Liberty. CDPR has promised a massive amount of free gameplay changes and a graphical update for Cyberpunk 2077 when Phantom Liberty releases. The changes are so extensive that I honestly would until it releases. But in the meantime, if you do play 2077, you're sure to have fun!

Still Glitchy, but Fun

DO NOT get hooked into the crafting system. It's still totally borked. You'll wind up with dupes and undroppable items clogging up your inventory. There are still other bugs, too. Graphical glitches. Occasional crashes. The writing is amateurish. They try to explore morally ambiguous subject matter, but you can't really do that with a simple conversation tree so the choices come across as kinda dumb. You have to ride the author's moral compass instead of applying your own, and the author's moral compass is kinda stuck. And... I'll just leave this here... No character in a story can be smarter than the writer. Make of that what you will. As for game design... Meh. The way the game handles armor and weapon values is kinda dumb. T-Shirts and leather jackets can have a better armor value than ballistic vests. An endgame pistol can do many times more damage than a starter sniper rifle. It's all part of a ridiculous system for keeping the game confined to a level-based advancement system that doesn't really suit the genre. But it IS fun, and it does (mostly) run. The setting is pretty immersive. The characters are likable and even, occasionally, border on interesting. Come into it knowing what you're getting. An OK Cyberpunk sim. Nothing more. Nothing less. Keep your expectations reasonable and you won't be disappointed.

Great story with decent RPG mechanics

- I am of the opinion this is as close to what the original hype for Cyperpunk 2077 was meant to be, and I applaud CDPR for taking the time to get the game in this state (no; this does not excuse what happened back in 2020). - But this is one of the richests, immersive, compelling gameworlds I have sank time into. Frankly speaking, the story is worth the ticket. - For the open world (and this is a complement): The game is on par with GTA IV now. The sandbox is very fun, and you can do a lot of chaos. If you have the appropriate hardware, it is a stunningly good game to look at as well. I don't think this is a stellar game just yet, but it is a good one. 8/10 (I await to see if the extra area the expansion adds can add .5 to it). Reviewed on AMD 5600X with RTX 3060 12 GB 1GB NVME GEN 4 (1080p Ray Tracing Low; FPS locked to 72 and little variation)

3 Years Later ...

OK... 3 years after I paid the full price for this game, it's nearly finished. Nuff said? No... It's a very basic game with kinda next gen graphics. That's the honest review. There is nothing new to see here, in fact, play GTA V for a far more comprehensive experience. We need to let these companies know that they can no longer sell unfinished product. This is not a 5 star game, it just feels 5 star in comparison to the buggy unfinished mess they sold us initially.
