Great game, great story, great atmosphere.
Side missions are a blast too.
Whole city feels alive.
BUT
This game is so buggy, that it is not even a joke.
Glitches are everywhere: from riding a bike (T - pose, butt naked guy appears and the disappears) to mission critical bugs like trying to scan evidence that you already scanned and can't progress further.
Also, a minor complaint - controls are a little bit strange. You can rebind them, so that is not a big issue.
Wait before buying.
Do not get me wrong, this IS a game that you need to play, one for the ages but I recommend to wait and see if they will fix all the glitches.
I am not even kidding when I say Fallout 76 was in better shape bugs wise than Cyberpunk.
I played Cyberpunk 2077 on 1.03 and 1.04 for 108 hours.
Let's face it, this game is buggy and unfinished :
- The remap mechanics for keyboard is a chore even with the inputUserMappings xml, (many cross mapping for different actions which ruins the game like my use 1 button was also the button for opening shards found across the town).
- The NPCs spawning mechanic is wrong : we can see them disappear in sight, or the policemen spawning in your back even when there is no way to get there, or some distant placeholder right in front of you, or distant vehicles on desert road, just like in Pacifica.
- The NPCs AI is wrong, Either in combat or for NC residents, many NPCs decisions doesn't look right. Because the game don't track NPC correctly, sometimes, the AI will notice you even when you are hidden for them.
- The physics are buggy : you will see, sometimes (not so often but still), cars flying because of wrong spawn rules, and sometimes, you will teleport with no reason.
- The open world is under used. You get no reputation with each gang/corporation/NCPD,/MaxTac/Trauma Team. You can't run business and vendors will buy anything (food vendors buying weapons and the contrary). The housing is useless (and bugged because I was not even able to sleep with my mates at their home after a romance).
But at last, the game was a blast for me.
The story, the lore and the main and secondary characters are all appealing. the plot is well written. the staging and voice acting are extraordinary (motion capture). The graphic design will make every cyberpunk fan feel at ease with the ambiance.
I gave 5 stars for one reason : I think that all the mess around this game's release is because it came way too early. People (investors, players) put pressure on CD Projekt and their developpers to get this game done as soon as possible. Those guys deserve to be recognized for what's it's worth.
I don't feel betrayed by CD Projekt at all. They just released too soon and they can fix that.
Playing it now (Dec/Jan) and planning to play again once DLC comes out and bugs are fixed. I'm hooked. First and foremost, since Neuromancer is one of my absolutely favorite SF books, living it is bliss, since the game takes A WHOLE LOT of concepts from there, without being a simple ripoff. In Night City you breathe cyberpunk and are completely immersed in the bleak society the genre envisioned. Don't expect too many heartwarming carefree characters around - all the more reason to treasure those few friends you DO have. BTW, I love the Johnny Silverhand character even though he gets constantly on my nerves, and that's CDPR magick at work: shy away from the obvious.
In terms of gameplay, I like the technical setup of battles. Ultra simplified shootouts was one thing that always bored me to hell in RockstarGames productions (yes, I couldn't force myself to finish the much vaunted GTA V). Here you have special abilities, special weapons, different classes, attributes, which lends to a lot of freedom in the way you can play. Unfortunately, it's also pretty rough and needs balancing. Playing on hard, in yellow areas (moderate danger) I regularly get one shot killed from normal enemies. They can take about 2000% the damage I can take, which forces me to fight through walls as most shots can be fatal (I don't have too many hp but I do have very high armor). This also limits my choices somewhat: melee weapons are very dangerous to use against more than one enemy and most guns are pointless. When my revolver deals 400+ damage through walls, what's the point of another pistol dealing 35 damage? If an enemy can take two full pump gun faceshots at point blank and walk, what's the point in taking the risk to get close and personal?
There's a lot more to be said about bad driving AI, miscellaneous bugs and more; still, I'm enjoying every minute of it. I can't wait (and in fact, I *did not* wait) to play it once it's fixed and tuned!
The Witcher 3 is my fave game of all time. This is the worst game i've ever played. I'm not being hyperbolic. All glitches aside this game is TERRIBLE.
