Lies and Deceipt

When you first get to Night City you WILL be in awe: it all looks AMAZING. The verticality and detail are jaw-dropping. Even if you're not using RT the game looks very, very good. You want to spend time here and discover this gorgeous place. Unfortunately, the more you play the more you get disappointed. All the shininess, flair and beauty.. it's all coat-paint. For all its breathtaking visuals Night City feels incredibly empty - and I’m not referring to crowd density. Lifeless. I'm one of the lucky bastards that never had a single CTD and my performance is not too bad. Of course the game is buggy as hell, but bugs can be fixed. What’s worse is that the systems feel tacked-on and unfinished. NPC AI is a joke compared to TW3, Police and the Wanted system is straight-out of a 90’s game, driving is ‘barren’, and the RPG component is laughable, you can tell it was completely rushed. After The Witcher 3 Cyberpunk IS a step backward. No amount of bug-fixes can fix the core foundations of this game. You can tell Cyberpunk 2077 needed at least two more years of development time. Something went VERY wrong with this game, this doesn’t feel like it was 5 years in the oven and all this time they overhyped an unfinished, broken and buggy game. The good will CDPR got from people with TW3, they won’t ever get it again. And overhyping a lie makes it so much worse it's borderline disgusting.

Great stories, annoying game elements

Tee stories are what is great with this game. A few irksome game designs and lack of walking toggle got fixed for me with mods, thank goodness, or Nexus mods actually. However, one thing that I found annoying and a typical CRPG failing is that all items have stats tied into them, hard, based on level. Cyberpunk 2020 and Cyberpunk Red tabletop RPGs have no levels or stats tied to items, it is a shame the game did not adopt this philosophy. Why can I not buy this jacket, that gun and so forth? I have more than enough money, but I lack... what, level? Artificial game mechanics not needed or in my case not desired. I detest level-bound items that make no sense. And stats in weapons and clothes and such? I hope to get a gun, for instance, and make THAT gun legendary through the game. Like Silverhand's gun. Or to pick my style and stick with it. But no, here we have a string-thong thing superior to armour trousers, here is an identical gun to what you first found but that does four times as much damage. Wrong approach, in my book. Let us upgrade them, within reason, but stats should not be tied to that. 'Fashion' stat, perhaps, but not armour values. Also severally lacking is preview of items (clothes mostly) when shopping in a store and vehicles when looking over the list later. What is needed to be implemented here is a thumbnail at the very least, preferably a 3D preview. Shopping blind is not good. Overall, though, I enjoyed the game and had few bugs. Mostly it was NPCs having small glitches, never ran into anything game breaking. Maybe I was lucky.

I love this game !

Ok, 70 hours in the game, lets write a review : D Its a great story driven rpg, with a captivating narative set in the Cyberpunk Red rpg universe. Satisfying combat loop, and decent customisation keep the game interesting to the end, and most missions are open to all kinds of approaches with low parametars ( go inside, take/ kill, you figure it out how ) and sometimes you get extra rewarded for doing it the hard way. There are more than 100 hours of side objectives to keep you engaged, and the relationship build with main charecters sticks long after there personal arc is resolved, but i doubt most people would play a single game for that long. I really enjoyed this title but i should make some important clarifications, since i think some overhype works against this game. -If you like RPGs like Bloodlines or DEUS EX, this is a game is recommended for you! But its not GTA 77, dont get me wrong, there are a lot of stuff to do, but the city serves as a background not a sandbox, and most mission types fall in the "kick ass in different ways"category, and post charecter creation customisation is not a thing, honestly there isnt much variety or sand in the sandbox. -Charecter skills are antoher part of this, there are many perks, but you will always shoot, sneack, hack and craft. You can exel in one skill "tree" if you like, but you really dont need to, and ita not encouraged that much. -Also you dont play as your charecter in this game, you play as V. Yes you can custamise in charecter creation and make it as relatable as possible, but V has a personality range, and its after act 1 when that range is broadened for story reasons i will not spiol. Choosing a background serves more as a flavor with tiny additions to quests and dialogues, but nothing worth a second or third playthrough. -A low end gaming PC can run it, but SSD and 8+ RAM is strongly recomended to avoid poping game assets. If your ok with all of this, and more bugs get patched soon, this is a 4+/5 game.

Flawed, but still really enjoyable

Nobody has writers like CDPR. Some of the quests are gobsmackingly well written and paced. And nobody has made an environment as large and unique as Night City: every street and alley feels hand-made and realistic. And so far, my old graphics card is handling the game fine; in fact, it looks and plays great, and the bugs have been only minor and rare in my case. I do take issue with some of the design imperitives, however. The game is a looter shooter, and while the gameplay itself is fine, the inter-gameplay management is mind-numbing. Again, the gameplay is fun, and there's room for creativity, but a lot of the scenarios are boring and the stealth is linear and mostly only worthwhile if you're role-playing. But managing your inventory after every firefight and mousing through endless stat cards is not fun, it's a chore. I know it's meant to massage that reward center of the brain, but it doesn't work for me. So on top of being a looter shooter, the game isn't groundbreaking in its progression: it's very last-last-gen in approach to questing and exploration. The Witcher 3 feels far more advanced in this regard, and its inter-gameplay systems are far more enjoyable and rewarding. In The Witcher 3, I often would go exploring and happen upon crimescenes or quest prompts. In Cyberpunk, I look at my map and waypoint to a questionmark. I will say, walking around in Cyberpunk feels like walking around in a real city, it's uncanny, and while the npc/car ai and pathing are rudimentary, exploring the city on foot is very satisfying. I really wish CDPR had looked more to Kingdom Come: Deliverance for inspiration. More freedom, more unpredictability. More hardcore RPG elements. I think I could totally avoid placing XP into any of my Cyberpunk character's specialties...it feels perfuctory. All that said, I'm enjoying the game and I'm looking forward to playing again--right away. And I almost never say that.
