This game has a strong fundament and they build a wooding house on it. Give the game one year or so and it will be a masterpice.
Cyberpunk has the potential to reach great heights and its a shame that it wasnt able to reach them on launch. So much of what the game advertised has been stripped out. It delivers a highly stylized adventure and tells an entertaining story. The story andsound design are great. The combat, stealth mechanics, driving, exploration, and rpg elements are not what was advertised. So far everything from hacking to character customization (including backstory) are barebones at best. The game can be fun but there are some serious growing pains that need to be ironed out before I can say I love the game
The game is horribly overrated in my opinion. It has much potential but it fails to deliver what was announced.
The game presents itself as a GTA-clone in first person perspective. There is nothing wrong with that, however for a game that was announced nearly a decade ago and hyped since then it is pretty weak.
Basically in its current state it is a buggy mess. The AI is almost nonexistent, you can trick it very easily. There is no vehicle AI, so there are no police chases like you would expect from GTA-style games. Sometimes vehicles simply despawn in the middle of the road. Combat is boring, it does not really make a difference which weapon you use. In many cases melee is the most reliable way to get rid of enemies.
The voice acting is pretty solid. The main story is ok but very short and the side missions are often just "get there, kill somebody, deliver something"-stuff which is very repetitive.
I have played through the game in less than 20 hours and it left me disappointed. Keanu Reeves is not enough to make a good game...
Everyone knows how glitchy and unfinished this game is, but if you look past those issues the game still isn't very good.
First of all, Cyberpunk 2077 is NOT an RPG, its a linear action adventure game much more similar to Far Cry than to the Witcher 3.
Your actions have no consequences on the plot or state of the world, you can't develop your character, you can't build a unique playstyle based on the skill tree, you can't interact with 99% of the NPCs in the world, the only role you can play is that of the predetermined main character, V.
The best part of Cyberpunk 2077 is the game world, but it is completely pointless from a gameplay perspective. The open world offers you nothing but travel times from mission to mission. There is literally nothing to do in the world beyond side missions and taking beautiful screenshots.
If you play this game by sticking to the main story and some of the major side missions, you'll have a pretty good time but you'll be done in about 20 hours. The writing is good, the voice acting and animation is great (except for Keanu's flat VA), and the characters are likeable. The problem is that in 2020, this type of extremely linear experience is not worth $60. Clearly something went wrong during development and they decided to shift the focus from RPG to aciton-adventure game and so a lot of work they did probably was thrown out.
Hopefully CDPR improves the game beyond just the promised bug fixes.
If you're on the fence, and happen to read this review, I would recommend NOT buying it in its current state not because of the bugs, but because of the underwhelming amount of content
Got hyped a lot when seeing all the premises, but after putting my hands on it:
- Bugs are frequent and break immersion (not the game fortunately)
- Textures load in front of my eyes
- AI is ridiculous, civilians startle as i accidentally bump into them and flee like rocket missiles (btw: they de-spawn as soon as you stop looking at them)
- No keyboard re-binding
- "Customization is everything" but then I can't change V's physical appearance? U serious?
Overall, although the battle scenes were still fun, I was let down cause I felt the game didn't live up to the expectations set.
As of now, I don't feel like playing an incomplete game and will probably wait 6 or more months until I can have the experience we were all promised to. This game could have better been launched Christmas, 2021, not 2020.
Last preorder CPR will ever get from me.
