Surprisingly shallow & profoundly broken

This long after day 0, the critical bugs and crashes should be a fading memory. Instead? 4 of my 7 gamer friends that bought it still haven't even been able to START it - ONCE. They all have well-put together, healthy, modern custom systems with no issues, and are even more competent than average at troubleshooting crappy game launches - but none of that is doing them any good. The bugs are truly THAT bad. On launch day, I luckily managed to reverse engineer a tedious, roundabout solution to my own crash woes after discovering that the game—for some truly inexplicable reason—is built upon a singularly-dysfunctional tangled-spaghetti framework of hacked-apart, hacked-together, console-inspired dependency libraries in what is without a doubt the biggest total failure of technical design that I have ever witnessed in a AAA title - and I've been making, breaking and playing PC games for almost 30 years. But I got to at least play through the story once, as a Nomad... ... until their 1.04 hotfix broke the game even worse. Now I am stuck among the ranks of those many, many, many who cannot even LAUNCH the game successfully - and believe me when I say I have tried *literally* every possibility short of changing my (very, very good) hardware. And it's now been like that for 4 days. Without a word from CDPR. Worse than that? What I HAVE been able to experience of the game didn't redeem it. - The voice acting is bad, occasionally dipping to indie levels. The protagonists are the worst offenders, sounding like something between college-aged sports announcers and movie trailers. - Characters are shallow, predictable tropes; I wouldn't normally complain IF they felt like they contributed meaningfully to any story somehow, but they all fell flat. - TAA, typical console-port mouse fuckery, bad menus... the list goes on, but I'm out of review space. I had a weird sense throughout that the game was actively fighting my best efforts to enjoy it. GG, game. You win.

Love the idea of it, not there yet tho.

Like the title I would have been fine with the delays if CDPR just had announced that they would delay it a year in april till april 21'. That would hopefully had meant that the devs didn't have to crunch that much and they would have had a whole other year to finish it, if they needed more, then okay. fine. It just isn't finished yet. I love the lore and the idea of the game, just not there yet.

OK game with great graphics on PC

For this review I will try to disregard any hype and discuss my experience on PC. Technical: -Played on 10750H/2070 1080P RT ultra/DLSS Quality, frame rates are tolerable -Noticed many of the glitches/bugs mentioned in other reviews, not game breaking but immersion breaking -lighting and graphics are phenomenal, best RT implementation so far -keyboard/mouse controls are janky and can't remap important ones EXTREMELY BAD: only double tap dodge and holster, crouch toggle doesn't work reliably Gameplay: This is where I was disappointed, there isn't anything terrible per se, but there isn't really anything that great either. -overall story is good, but lacks character development seen in games like Witcher 3, there are only a few instances where you feel a connection with NPCs. For me this was due to a few causes: 1. constant interruptions during key points missions with texts and calls. 2. bugs causing dialogs to be skipped or have no audio. 3. interactions with NPCs seem to happen in isolated bubbles and have little or no impact on the rest of the world. -Key game systems are very shallow: 1. Crime/Police is a joke 2. side quests/gigs don't impact rest of world and feel like they are only there for XP farming. 3. Reputation/street cred is just a gate to purchase items 4. Your look or dress has no impact on play. 5. The world is beautiful but void of interactions, very few NPCs and ones that are there share the same cookie cutter responses and animations, nothing new to look forward to seeing after 5 minutes. 6. Netrunning is reduced one simple minigame despite being a major part of canon. 7. Cars make no difference to gameplay 8. Overall just not an RPG feel, it feels like a bunch of stuff got thrown on the map for filler but there isn't any depth or interplay to it. 9. Very few choices actually matter in the game Take GTA1 crime and driving, Outer Worlds gameplay, and AC Odyssey quests and maps and combine with killer graphics and you get CP 2077.

absolutely fantastic, but...

The game is fantastic, not perfect, but still fantastic. It is probably some of the best writing I have seen in a video game and the game overall is just well made. One thing I do have to say is that you should not go into the game expecting it to be like RDR2 or GTAV, instead expect it to be like that of the Witcher 3. The game will be far more enjoyable if you do. However, this game needs some more polishing to be done. I know I don't have the best pc rig, but I should not have to run the game on the lowest settings to to even just reach 40 fps. Bugs happen frequently, and it tends to ruin the game's immersion (although none of them have been game breaking, at least for me). Also the ai can be really inconsistent, with citizen npcs having shallow reactions, cops spawning out of nowhere, and enemies not reacting to being shot. Fortunately, most of these gripes can be fixed with patches and updates, and once it is, I will have no problem giving the game 5 stars. (I know this is a review is for pc, but that console release was just atrocious)
