Focusing on the story and quests

The main story is okay but doesn't hold a candle to the witcher 3. Basically, some good writing and likable characters but it all ends so suddenly you could've sworn the game only finished downloading an hour ago (to avoid confusion the main quest takes about 15 hours). To make the length even more irritating it feels like the story only just started to get interesting and then bam! point of no return. Also the montage at the start of the game feels pretty lazy. Side jobs however are where the real meat is. With the exception of the racing and boxing questlines side jobs are well written and come very close to matching some of witcher 3s best moments. I especially like how some of these can even open opportunities for V that effect the ending of the main questline. My only gripe is that it feels like there are so few of these and there are so many missed opportunities for interesting quests that I can only assume that CDPR ran out of time before they could make more. The Gigs, honestly I can't quite decide how i feel about these. Gigs are basically 5 min quests that you mostly do to earn money (I'm not even going to get into the in-game economy, let's just say it really needs balancing). The quality of the gigs varies wildy, with some being really unique and interesting and others feeling like the busy work you'd find in an mmo. It's actually quite strange, it seems like half of them were meant to be fully fleshed out side quests but were downsized for time and so aren't as satisfying as they really should be. I think the main problem with gigs is the way they're given to you. Basically you go to a marker on the map get a 10 second phone call from the local fixer followed by a 3 paragraph text message about why you should care what you're doing, it's seems to be the perfect example of telling instead of showing. Overall story and quest-wise the game is... just okay. But if professional reviews are anything to go by, I seem to be in the minority on this.

Looks good... but not much else

I have been having some fun playing but it is evident that what we got is a far less deep and immersive game than was promised. The city is huge and detailed but it is also dull and lifeless. I have tested the AI a number of times by simpy pointing my gun at people walking by and getting absolutely no reaction at all. Nobody cares what you do and your actions have no impact on how gangs or the city react to your presence. Also, why can't I get a haircut, change my facial hair, get tattoos, etc.? Serious bugs still exist after several patches eventhough the game apparently went gold more than a month ago. I find myself having to frequently reload saves in order to get the game working the way it should. I have been very frustrated with how phone calls from Delamain and local fixers will still come through when driving during story missions and will drown out conversations with other characters. The performance throughout the city overall varies wildly and crashes are not uncommon. The story is also pretty lackluster as well with the main narrative being too short and not particularly well-paced either. The plot beats are also very predictable and offered nothing in the way of surprises. There were a few moments that might have had bigger impact had they not been spoiled in a trailer or deep dive or whatever. Dialogue options are often binary and I never really felt like my choices impacted the story beyond minor changes. This is such a disappointing game with a serious lack of polish and clear downgrade in terms of scope, systems, and mechanics compared to what was being teased for the last several years. I doubt I'll have much interest in replaying Cyberpunk after I finish the main story in a few more hours. Updates might be coming but I spent money for the game that should be working properly right now, not a few months from now. A game that has been in production for this long should be better than this. A lot better.

Had promise but is shallow

The voice actors and audio design team are the gems of this game. Knocked it out of the god damn park! The game starts in a poor way, i think. I went down the Corpo path and you "start"the game 3 times, befoire you get to the open world stuff. These false starts really frustrated me. The 3 starter arcs don't mean anything beyond some voice lines. Besides the main campaign, which is pretty great, the rest is shallow and empty. Don't scratch too deep or you'll find nothing below. There are a new cool side missions and gigs, but most of them are copy and paste jobs to increase content. I don't regret buying it, but it doesn't have the replay value the Witcher 3 has. I've cleared half the map of missions. Probably won't launch the game again till a DLC comes out, becuase there isn't anything else to explore. I'm not soing a second play through, just to see a slightly different end mission. I'll just watch it on YouTube.

Pretty, buggy, forgetable

I'm not sure what these guys were developing for 8 whole years, but this isn't the result we all expected. And I'm not talking about the current state of bugs, crashes and performance issues which I'm sure will get fixed over time, even if that is completeley unacceptable for a product that was supposed to launch "when it's ready". What I'm not sure about is whether any amount of DLCs can fix this being a bland game, with game mechanics being broken and features missing. This is not an RPG, rather a glorified shooter which happens to have a rather nice story. Characters are bland, world is stale and stagnant.

Unfortunately, seven years were wasted

No longer trust cdpr, they cheat players with empty checks. It could have been a good game
